I couldn't believe it. I stared hard and long trying to wrap my brain around it. I dropped my things and strung an arrow into my bow. Carefully, walking towards the house my heart was on edge. I felt the stinging pain of my wrist which probably meant that it was a deeper cut than I thought. I continued on anyways, focusing on to my surrounding. As I got closer to the house I saw in the grass was puddles of blood leading a trail toward the house. The front porch was spilled with red all over it. The front door was partly off of the hinge.
Then I peeked into the silent house. It was dark and the living room was a mess. It looked like a tornado had struck with old blood smears on the walls and floor. I was horrified. To my surprise, the kitchen was clean and untouched. Which just made me even more creeped out and scared. I looked down the hall and found there were claw marks sliding down the hall towards what I think was grandma's room.
I walked slowly while my heart was beating so fast, it felt like I had run a 4K. I came up to grandma's room. The door was closed and I heard nothing behind it. Please let her be alive. I build up my strength and kick the door down.
I had enough sense to know that an arrow was coming towards me. I army rolled to the ground and ended up on my knees. My weapon was aimed at the place where the arrow came from. I blinked in surprise to find that the person was aiming their bow at me. To my amazement, the person lowed their weapon enough for me to see that it was grandma.
She smiled and said," I hit the target." she was pointed behind me. I looked back and must have missed the black and red target hanging in the hall. Her arrow had struck good in the very middle. I turned back to her.
" Grandma, what is going on? Why is there so much dried up blood on the porch and the door is broken? Why is the. . . . " I trailed off when I saw her face. She had a grin on her face but she looked really sweaty. I noticed that there were black bags under her eyes and she looked like her actual age as a grandma. Almost fragile like.
" Here grandma, you look like you need some rest." I went over to her and held out my hand putting my weapon and hers on her small desk. I pulled her up and felt her forehead with my other hand. She was burning up with a fever. This is bad! I had never seen grandma like this. I led her to her bed and tucked her in like a little kid.
" You need to get some rest grandma, you are burning up," I said while holding on her hand.
" But, I don't want to." She replied like a little kid.
"It's okay, the more you rest the more you feel better," I whispered to her in a voice I used her Alex. she seemed to stop fighting her blankets and stared up at me.
" Here, I have just the thing that will cheer you up. . . ." I trailed off as I search for the basket mom gave me. Oh right, I left it at the edge of the woods.
" Stay here, I will be back soon." I left a kiss on her head and grabbed my weapon before departing. I ran back to my things and was happy to hear the birds were back singing. I came back to see that grandma wasn't in her room. Where did she go? I then heard the sound of a toilet being flush. I went down the hall until I reached the bathroom door. The door opened up to show grandma.
" Oh honey, your here. Why didn't you knock?" She pulled me into a hug. I was super confused. Did my grandma get amnesia?!
"Now let's go outside and see if you got any better with your fighting." she continued and led me down the hall. Part of me wanted too. I wanted to forget all the trouble and just have fun. But knew something was terribly wrong with grandma.
" Grandma," I pulled her to a stop. She looked down at me with concern.
" I have been here for 10 minutes now and you saw me."I let that sink in. She looked confused.
" I think you have amnesia." I ended up to the point.
" Here." I grab her hand and made her feel her own forehead. She quickly brought her hand back with surprise.
" I....I...must have gotten the Darkbloom fever . . . ." she finally said with a blank look in her eyes. I was confused about her words but started dragging her back to her room. She let me still having a faraway look in her eyes.
" Wait! Where is Irvin?" She questioned. Who is Irvin?
" Come on, you need to rest." She let me put her back to bed. She was back to her childish ways. I pulled out some liquid medication out of the basket that I had set down on the floor by her bed.
" Open up," I said. I was holding out the spoon with some purple liquid.
" No, that stuff is yucky!" She made a face. I thought of ways that I could make her swallow it when an idea came to my mind.
" Look a blue-footed blue jay is on the window!" I uttered out in fake excitement.
" wher-" I interrupted her by shoving the spoon in her mouth.
" Hey, that is no fair!" She pouted.
" You need some rest grandma. Okay?"
" Fair enough. Okay. . . ." I watched as she closed her eyes. After five minutes that she started to snore. I crept out of her room but not before moving away from the tratted remains of her door. I set the big pieces in the ruin living room. Okay . . . I have a lot of work to do. First I need to find grandma a new door and then figure out how she got so insane!!!! Ahhhhhhh!
I was so frustrated at the turn of events that the day had to give. I walked outside to see that the sun was starting to set. First off, I don't feel safe with having two broken doors. I looked over the front door and saw the easy fix. All I need to do was fix the hinge that had broken off the door. I saw that I needed more wood for support.
There is a woodpile behind the house If I can recall. Not wanted to leave my grandma with open access to her home and room, I pulled the broken door against the doorway. There, If something moves it I will be able to hear it. I walked over to the back of the house to find that there was still a wood pile. Good.
My back was turned towards the woods as I sorted through the pile. Ah ha! Found the perfect piece. I reached to grab it when I sensed something behind me. I grabbed the wooden piece and backhand it behind me as I turned around with all my strength.
I was tired of the commotion. I hit into a force that sent the thing to the ground. I stared in bewilderment at what it was. Not that it was a thing but a person.
He groaned and turned unto his side and looked up at me. I saw that he was probably around my age and was really cute. I hid my blushing face. Then having my emotion passed, I looked over at him again. He had black hair with dark reddish streaks. Then I saw his eyes. They were the brightest green that I have ever seen.
I stared into the depths of those eyes as he pushed himself to stand. I snapped out of it and pulled out my dagger. Stupid pretty boy. I was able to see that he was tall and muscular with a tan. His bangs fell into his eyes. He looked shocked but had a frown on his face.
" I don't know who you are, but if you try to-" I was cut off by him .
" Whoa, there little girl! I am a friend of Murphy. So let's not lose an arm over it." I glared at him and took a closer step towards him. Murphy is my grandma's name. . . how did he know that? Wait! Grandma did mention something about Irvin.
" Who are you and how can I trust you?" I questioned. I didn't want to ask if his name was Irvin, because he could simply say yes and lie.
" I am Irvin and I have been helping your grandma since she helped me." He said in a serious tone. Either A) he was able to read my mind or B) he was telling the truth. I chose C) He is using half-truths. His name could be Irvin but he could have poison grandma into thinking he was a friend. That could also explain how insane she seemed.
But on the other hand, he could be telling the truth. " I need to see her, to see if she is okay." He said as he took a step closer to me.
" Stay back!" I growled at him. I don't like this one bit, yet. . . he could help her. . . especially if he is the one that caused her to go insane and have amnesia.
" Fine, but you have to be in front of me" I barked out. So I can keep an eye on him if he tries to do anything funny. He leads us back around the house. I had grabbed one of the wood pieces for the door. When we came to the front, I swear I saw a flicker of emotion over his face when he saw the blood and chaos of the front door. It almost seemed as if he looked guilty.
That just made me trust him less. We went into the house and he leads down the hallway. He stopped in his tracks and I bumped into him from behind. He turns on me.
" What happened to the door!?" he whispered shouted. I had enough of this. I pushed him against the wall. Later on, I recall that he let me pushed him against the wall.
" I have enough of this! See the door was because of me. How would you feel if you get a letter from your grandma who claims she is very sick and needs help who lives in the middle of the most dangerous woods and yet to get a letter to you. Then on the way to her house, bandits get you and almost kills you when out of the blue comes the biggest craziest blur of a creature that had the tendency to go help you and-" He interrupted by a gasp and his eyes go wide. Yeah, I been through a lot!
" That's not all, no way is that all. You hear the creature come after you so you run. Oh did I forgot to mention that you also had cut open your wrist by trying to cut yourself free? So you ran to the edge of grandma's yard and then noticed that there was blood all over the house and the front door was broken. So why would you not run in and go to grandma's room to see that it was closed and then kick it down in fear of her being DEAD?!"
I finished my tangent and looked him dead in the eyes. I wanted to see what he would do. He was good at concealing his emotions but I saw that he was shocked.
" Okay, I'm sorry now will you let me good, I have to give Grandma M her meds before she gets any worse." He finally blurted out for what seemed like a few minutes. Are you for real? NO ONE CALLS MY GRANDMA THEIR GRANDMA!
" First off, Don't ever call my grandma as your grandma that is just wrong. The second thing is I already gave her some meds." His eyes go wide and he pushed me off of him so hard that I hit into the wall and collapsed on the floor. I had to wait for my head to stop spinning before standing back up. I noticed that my wrist needed a new bandage and probably stitches. I ignore the pain and the fresh drops of blood that fell on the ground. I ran into grandma's room to see that Irvin had a bowel out with a masher thing that he was crushing some herbs.
" What are you doing, don't hurt her" I screamed not caring if she woke up.
" Quiet!" He hissed at me and proceed to mashed together whatever evil things he was making.
" Stop it!" I shouted and ran towards him. He kicked underneath me and I fell again on the floor. I try to get up but he pressed his foot into my stomach keeping me pinned to the ground. I struggle but he pressed harder until I couldn't breathe. I stopped struggling and he loosens the pressure just slightly.
I watched as he finished up and pour the contents into a orange bottle that I at first didn't see. Then he leans over to grandma, only slightly moving his foot that was against me and woke grandma up. She was half out of it and he helps her bring her lips over to the bottle.
" No stop! Please don't!" I begged with tears rolling down my face. He glanced at me and for a second I see his emotion that showed sadness. He turned back to grandma and she drank the bottle. He steps back and released me.
I ran to grandma's side and grabbed her hand. It was cold and felt lifeless. I looked at her face and saw that she had laid back into bed with a small smile and her eyes were open. NO, NO she can't die, not like this. I felt her forehead and was her face, but they were coldish too.
" You Monster, you will pay for this," I yelled at Irvin. I ran to him with angry tears blurring my face. He grabbed me and held me out as I struggled to get to him. I wanted to hurt him as much as he hurt me.
After a while, my anger disappeared replacing it with sorrow. I fell to the floor in a big sobbing mess. He sat down with me and whispered,
" It had to be done." he then pulls me into a hug. I was too tired to fight and just let him know that after I was done crying he was going to be dead for what he did to grandma. I cried and cried for what seemed like hours until I felt dizzy. I started to see black with red spots in my vision and looked down to see that my wrist was swollen and bleeding a lot of blood. I just watch the blood fall to the floor as my vision gets darker and darker. Finally, I let the dark consume me as I fell unconscious. My last thought was that Irvin had somehow poisoned me as he did to grandma.
