Nobody slept the night after George's death.
Everywhere you'd go, talk of his death would arise.
It wasn't just the fans that took it hard though.
Mikey Craig moved out of London, an offer for a guitarist arose so he took it. Also, he didn't really want to stay in a place where too many memories of George was present.
Roy Hay stayed. After Culture Club died, Roy began to work at a supermarket. He never stopped playing guitar, though he wished more than anything to play in a band again.
Jon & Barbara continued to live in the house. Although it spread bad & good memories of George, they never left. Barbara's tummy got bigger, and any day now would she give birth.
Jon spent his days locked in his room with music turned all the way up. It was rare when he left. He never wanted to go out in public & socialize. He never even spoke to anyone since the day of George's death. Unless it was Barbara, and even that was rare.
The only album that was proof that Culture Club existed, was 'Kissing To Be Clever'. The last song that George wrote for the album was put on the album as well, though it pained the band to record it without George's voice.
As for the concert that was supposed to be the last one for the tour, the band attended. Without George.
The fans cheered, even though there was no George singing. Tears were also present.
In Mikey's opinion, it wasn't very good when you only have a drummer and two guitarists, with no singer.
However, the last song of the night wasn't played. The fans demanded to hear the last song George wrote and Jon refused to play it. He ran off the stage, crying. If he stayed any longer, he would have had a mental breakdown.
After the eventful last concert, the band met backstage and bid their farewells. They even met up at Mikey's house for tea & some food.
It was fun until they glanced at the seat next to Jon, that was empty. Mikey went out of his way to grab another glass, pour liquor in it, and set it down in front of the seat next to Jon.
They all cheered, even to George's cup. They cheered for those happy years of being together, and cheered for all those happy memories they had with George. And they drank. And drank. And drank.
That night was the last night everything was fine. Since the departure, it turned increasingly hard. Although, they got through it.
Even the fans got through it, piece by piece. People visited George's grave almost daily to give him bright-colored flowers, letters, cards, and pictures drawn from hand or bought at a store from them.
It wasn't long until George's father had died. Now, the O'Dowd family wasn't just grieving over a lost son, brother, nephew, or cousin, they were also grieving over his loving father. "Loving".
George's dad was not a very loving father at all. He criticized everything George did. But, deep down, he loved his son with all his heart. And most even believe he died of a broken heart.
Dinah O'Dowd blamed herself for George's death. But her sons & daughter were a constant reminder of how good of a mother she was.
Yes, George was loved. And through his flaws & faults, nobody ever forgot him.
Dinah O'Dowd never forgot her little boy. She never forgot the days where George would jump on his bed, singing into his mum's hair brush. Or the days where he got into her makeup & applied it onto himself, even when he wasn't supposed to.
Gerald, Richard, Kevin, and David never forgot their brother either. They never forgot how George would never want to play them because he was too busy playing with Siobhan, his sister.
She missed him dearly. He would always want to play Barbie with her, or dress up, hell, he even wanted to put makeup on with her. But she always gave herself credit for teaching thee Boy George how to do makeup.
He wasn't always an angel. Which is why they were all shocked when they heard of his passing. His mother remembers picking up the ringing telephone & crying. It pained her to tell her children, but they had to know about their brother.
All of that aside, 'Kissing To Be Clever' became a very popular album in the UK. It even topped the charts. It held the record of being #1 for a whole month! It became the band's prize treasure. Everything they did, payed off. In fact, they even had to meet up again to celebrate such an amazing achievement!
Sadly, George wasn't alive to see it happen. He wasn't alive to see his dreams come true. Not only that, but even though they both were dead, George proved to his father that he was wrong.
His father never believed that George could become anything because of the way he was. Gay, overly dressed, unemployed, and makeup crazy.
All of these years, George worked hard to try to prove to his father, that he could become something.
And he did. He became Boy George. A popular artist, well known even out of the UK.
He became the Drummer's Boy.
He became somebody's idol.
And he became a legend that would be forever remembered in music's history.
