Blackhearted settled down in his den and turned towards Caius. "Has any If the Lost Wolves contacted you?" He asked. Caius shook his head.
"They have been silent Blackhearted." He growled. Turning around twice to get comfortable he laid down. "But I believe you have. Whenever they do you get this distant faraway look. Except this time it is filled with confusion and fear."
"You can read me like an open book can't you?" he joked half heatedly to his oldest friend and Doctor.
Caius shrugged. "You pick up a thing or too as a Doctor." He replied cooley. "Now tell me what they said."
"Well, Wise One," he stopped starring meaningfully up at the roof of the den hoping the ancestors were listening. "White shadow spirit came to me in a dream last night. He said. 'Black and white will meet and form alliance. Gorge will protest and rebel. Ferns will curl and shy from battle. And Fang glints dangerously over the land.' I think it means The Pack of no stars and The Pack of the Rising Moon will join together. The Pack of the Falling gorge will rebel against us. The Pack of Curled Ferns will shy away from battle when it comes. And some Fang is threatening us all." He finished. "What do you think Doctor?" He asked.
Caius stared at Blackhearted for one moment astonished. "When did you become so smart?" he asked sarcastically. "OF COURSE IT DOES YOU TWIT!? A WEEK OLD PUP COULD SEE IT!" Caius growled only half joking. Racing out of Blackhearted's den, Caius headed toward the Doctors' den to brood over the new prophecy.
Blackhearted sat, mouth wide open at the sudden outburst. 'Jeez. He freaks out because i am smart?! What a friend!' He wondered. Padding out of his den he looked around the clearing. "Jinx!" He called.
A black almost blue colored wolf padded out of the warriors' den. "Yes Blackhearted?" She asked.
"I would like you to be the new Commander to replace Lupis." His voice cracked at the sound of his own words.
Jinx nodded understanding. "Well, I guess I better go train some of the hunters..." She said obviously trying to get away.
"I will come with you!" he said. "I was going to take some hunters to teach myself." he barked. "We can teach them together."
Jinx nodded her head and padded toward the hunters' den.
Blackhearted padded by Jinx with the apprentice Rosepetal, Callister, Mazarath, and Twister. As they reached a good place, a soft mossy hollow with trees and thorns surrounding the area, Blackhearted turned around. "Ok! Why don't Jinx and Mazarath pair up. Callister and Twister. And I will partner with Rosepetal." He was a tid bit worried bit worried about Callister and Twister being paired up. The two males always got under each other's fur.
Rosepetal shook with nervousness at the fact of facing the alpha. "It is ok." he soothed. "Come at me anyway you want." he offered.
Rosepetal narrowed her eyes and judged the distance between the alpha and herself. Leaping to the side unexpectedly, she slipped under Blackhearted' stomach. Blackhearted dropped to the ground on top of her. She squealed and squirmed out from under Blackhearted growling. She began to circle Blackhearted and hopped out of the way as he lunged. Pouncing on his head she pushed off and bit his flank, holding on as he went. They were still sharp from youth. They would dull as time went on.
"How in Sculcan did you know that move?!" He said bewildered. Rosepetal looked uncomfortable.
"Cal has been teaching me when he is not teaching and protecting the hunters." She nearly squeaked. Blackhearted's eye twitched, and he smiled to himself.
'Is there something going on between those two?' His thoughts were interrupted by howling and screeching coming from behind him. Spinning around Cal and Twister were locked together in a battle to the death. Racing into the fray he tried to drag Twister off of Cal.
Rosepetal bellowed in rage and leapt onto Twister's back biting and clawing as fiercely as she could. Twister howled in pain but kept his jaws locked around Cal's neck. Blackheart nipped Twister's backside trying to bring him around to himself. In a loud commanding voice Blackheart growled, "TWISTER! GET OFF OF HIM THIS INSTANT!!!" Twister stopped and turned around Cal still locked in his jaws. "THAT IS AN ORDER!"
Rosepetal was still on his back but she had stopped scratching him. Pushing Twister away from Cal she sniffed his neck. "He has to get back to camp now! Caius must attend to this immediately." Her eyes filled with worry, she and Jinx slowly dragged Cal back to camp.
Blackheart rounded on Twister. "What in the name of the spirits were you doing?!" He growled menacingly.
Twister looked down at his paws, burning with shame. "I got carried away..." He mumbled.
Blackheart smacked the side of Twister's face with a paw. "You will get worse than that if you "get carried away" again. Do you understand me?" He asked, sounding like a mother-wolf. Twister nodded. Blackheart rounded on his paws padding silently back to camp.
He checked on Cal in the Healers' den.
Caius turned around. "He is stable but I don't know if he will pull through." He asid slowly understanding Blackheart's appearance. Blackheart's eyes glazed with pain as he padded back to his den.
Laying down in his bed it hit him like a oncoming moose. 'My pack is falling apart at the seems.' He realized.
