Meeting the Neighbors

It was 7pm on the dot when the doorbell rang. Delta carefully went to open the door knowing that her nerves are getting to her which makes her coordination a little shaky. She took a deep breath,then quickly ran her fingers through her spiral curls Dairra did.On the other side of the door revealed a small family of three.

"Good evening, you must be the Venors", Delta said a little too quickly that made her words come out nebulous. She stepped aside allowing them entry to the living area.

Reid seemed gloomy compared to how Delta saw him this morning. As they walked to the dining area,Delta leading the way,her mom came to greet them.

"Good evening Mr and Mrs Venor"

"Please,call me Faye",Mrs Venor said earning a warm smile from Mrs. Felga.

"And I am Liz,please call me Liz. When people call me "Mrs Felga" I feel like I already have great grand children". Laughter filled the room. Mr. Venor was not much of a speaker like his wife. After all the greetings and welcoming was made, the guests were taking their sits at uthe table.

When everyone was seated,Delta was the only one standing. There was one more sit left next to Reid.

"Delta honey,is there a problem?", her mom asked letting all heads turn to her.

"Uh no mom I'm fine thanks".

She attempted to pull the chair out when it some how got stuck under the table. For a split second she glanced at Reid seeing if she can get a little help but he was not attentive. Delta tried again. The chair came out but she spilled a glass of water on the leg of Reid's jeans.

"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry! The chair was stuck an-"

"Its okay,i'm wearing jeans,it will dry sooner or later,really its no problem",he patted her on the small of her back.

Delta took her sit feeling her checks heat up in embarrassment.

The table was covered in a variety of dishes. Delta mom always enjoyed cooking Although she had no interest in getting a career in cooking. She enjoyed it for the fun of it. Now she has people who can enjoy it too.

"So Delta,tell me which school you attend here and what grade are you in", came the question of Mr. Venor.

Delta was really quiet as she chose to eat and not cause anymore harm to embarrass herself again.

"Well,I'm in the 10th grade and I attend Astune High. It's like a 15 minute walk from here but if you choose to take your vehicle it'll be about 10 minutes or less. Most days I choose to walk. I believe that it is taking advantage of the use of the car for such a short distance. Oh and it also makes you become indolent".

Reid who has been quiet from since dinner began, chose to share his opinion on Delta's statement.

"I must say that I one hundred percent agree. This means that we will have fun walking to school everyday", Reid said stabbing his chicken and eating it with a grin.

"Oh wonderful!",Mrs Felga applauded excitedly looking at Reid and Delta along with Mrs. Venor. Delta's cheeks was red as Beet as she tried to focus on the food and taking in everything that was just said.

"This is going to be a long week", she muttered.
