A smile creases on his lips as James folds the letter in his hands. It was from Tess. He thought about the year that happened before. Tess liked him! She really did! Finally, a girl liked me, and even better, it was Tess, he thought.
James starts to walk away from his locker, the letter in his hands. It was the end of the school year so students are leaving the school dormitories, and him? Well, he is too. If only I knew, he thought. I would have approached her.
He takes the books from his locker and carries them in his hands. Struggling, James carefully walks through the halls. A woman catches his attention, it was his mom. She looks young to be a mother, actually, you won't know that she's a mother just by looking at her. She has a dark brown hair just like james' , dark green eyes, and a fit body but not to the extent of looking like a wrestler. She looks tired. She must've lost some sleep. James waves at her mom as his mother walks towards him to help. "you didn't even say goodbye last time" she says as they walk toward the car. Right, last time, the time where he was so embarrassed about getting rejected for the dance that he went to his house and slept there.
"Oh, right" he starts, "I woke up late that day mom, I was in a hurry, I'm sorry". "well it's okay honey, I just hope that you'd let me know next time, okay?". James nods in response as he opens the door to the shotgun seat. "Did he call?" James asks out of the blue that her mom stops moving for a while. "uhmm, no, James". She replies, tucking her hair behind her ears. James' dad left them early this year. He cut contact with them since his new baby. "I'm sorry mom, he's such a jerk", james says painfully. He looks at her mother with hurt.
His mom drops him off at his dorm to gather his clothes and other belongings.
As he passes along the halls of their dormitories, his eyes made contact withTess'. Her eyes appear blank, as if nothing happened, as if the letter never happened.
Maybe a confession is just her way of letting go. And what, I'll just love her because she loved me first? James thought. And besides, I don't like her now. I knew my lesson and I know where I'm suppose to stand.
They pass each other like they didn't know each other. Well, they really didn't know each other, but you get my point.
A heart loved her before but the lover never had the courage to say.
A heart longed to be loved before and never got the chance to be.
