My heart had immediately started beating to fast. Only one thought swirled around in my brain; what was he doing here? When wepulled up, he had his back facing me, but I could still clearly see his shaggy blond hair and tall, muscular body. I glared at Lia, who was still oblivious to my distress and was chatting away aimlessly with her mother.
"Lia," I hissed, "You didn't tell me Nick would behere!" My face I am sure, had flared pink with anger. She knew about that night two years ago. She knew I hated his guts. She also knew that I was willing to do anything and everything to stay out of Nick Mason's path, and yet she brought me here anyway.
She sighed, slowly turning to face me, "What, Jessi? Because if you're going to complain about being here, I don't want to hear it." Did she really think I was that shallow? That I would wait till I was sitting outside the high school auditorium doors to back out? Her green eyes had lost a bit of their shine, because of her annoyance and her lips were stretched in a thin line.
"Nick." I repeated, resisting the urge not to duck down. If he turned around, he would be able to see me perfectly. For two whole years I had managed to avoid his sorry face, which wasn't that hard seeing as he had been kicked out of our school after thei ncident and now, in one night, that would be ruined.
Lia's eyes widened in recognition as her eyes locked on the figure outside my car door. I gave her a pleading look, begging her to understand. I couldn't go out there, I couldn't. Suddenly, I was blasted with a gush of cool air. I squeaked as I felt myself falling backwards out of the magically opened car door, my heart leaping intomy throat.
Before I could hit the ground, however, I landed in strong arms. My heart all but stopped. At that moment, I cursed myself for not wearing a seat belt. At that moment in time, I never wanted to openmy eyes again. But, I had too. And when I did, my face was only a few inches away from those piercing blue eyes that made my blood boil.
Nick had been the one to open my door, and to catch me from my threatening concussion. His angelic face was only inches from mine, giving me a clear view of his matured featured. He haden't changed much in the past few years, but he had lost some baby fat. His jaw was more set, and his cheeks not as chubby.
He still had the little scar above his right eyebrow, from whereI had managed to sink my long nails into flesh, but his lip wasn't busted like the last time I saw him. His blue eyes were shinning with mystery, sprinkled with light gray flecks. The way he had his arms wrapped around my waist made my skin crawl and itch.
"Nick," I hissed venomously, pushing his chest. He let go of me, but only after making sure I could stand on my own. A small smile tugged on the corners of his soft pink lips.
"Jessi," He said back, straighting his blue dressshirt. He had paired his shirt with dark wash jeans and black converse. "Would you walk with me? We need to talk." My heart sounded pumping, those words sounding eerily like the ones he spoke two years ago.
"No," I started, making my seemingly frozen legs move,"We can't talk. We can never talk." I pushed myself into the crowd of people, hoping he wouldn't be able to see me. Stupid high heels! Why had I let Lia talk me into them?! "Excuse me!" I called desperately, pushing my way through the especially thick crowd of people.
"Wait, Jessi!" That was the last thing I heard Nick shout before I pushed the auditorium doors open. It was less crowded inside, so I was able to move down the hall ways pretty easily. Tears burned my eyes as I ran through the bathroom doors, bursting open astall and locking myself inside. My whole body was shaking.
