"Attie!" Arthur climbed the stairs shouting for his twin dressed in a black suit and tie. His mother and father always insisted that they dress up when meeting with the Alpha. It was such a drag. He didn't blame Atalante for not showing up but that didn't excuse its severity. Ignoring a mandatory meeting was an insult to him and with him and her already being half-breeds, they were walking on eggshells. "Attie!!"

"Huh?" said a half-drowsy . "The answer is Mendelivium!" When he walked inside to see her jump up from her writing desk with a start.

"Damn," Arthur laughed standing in the doorway. "How long were you studying?"

Atalante half-groaned and half wept as she plopped back onto the wooden chair. "Forever! I have a chemistry test, and English test, a Government test, and a Calculus test. And its all this Friday. How the hell do they expect a teenager to learn all this in a few short days?!"

"Maybe that's why most of us chose to go to school in the morning," he emphesisized the last part with humor in his tone.

"Ahh!" she exclaimed in exasperation. "Artie! Don't make me--"

""Whoa, whoa," he walked to stand beside her with his hands raised in defense. "Before you chew me out, you should probably know that today was that meeting the Alpha called. Remember?" She stared him blankly for a second. He watched as her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion before they were suddenly raised in shock and apprehension.

"No, no, no, no, no!. That was on April 8th."

"Today is April 8th," he said calmly, hoping his own calm would reflect on her turbulence.

"Oh shiite!" she flew from the chair knocking it over and ran into her messy closet. She picked up a plain white button up shirt and a seude pencil skirt and some heels. She ran with those articles of clothing into the adjoining bathroom in her room. And proceeded to get changed. "Why didn't you check on me? You know, try to wake me."

"I yelled through your door," said Arthur. "You said you were practically out the door and would meet us there."

"What the fudge, man!" he could hear her say along with following shuffles of clothings. Atalante tended to talk in her sleep when she was most exhausted and she was not a happy person like usual.

"Just relax. Go to his office and apologize without giving any lip," he walked over to her when she got out of the bathroom and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Smile, head up high. Be polite."

Atalante groaned again. "I wish you could go for me," she said as she passed him to descend the stairs. It was empty like usual. Their parents worked as professors at the local community college.

"Good luck," she heard Arthur shout as she walked out of the house and left the driveway in her car. Their house wasn't so far from the pack house. It took about ten minutes to get there on the designated dirt road. She ignored the snide looks she got from the werewolves that passed by as she made her way inside and up to the Alpha's study.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Come in," called a deep commanding voice from inside.

Atalante hesitantly turned the knob. He sat in his chair with his wife/ luna on his lap. They had identical 'deeply-in-love' expressions on their face for a split second before she fully entered the study. The pair seemed like kind souls, though such kindness was never shown to a half-breed like herself.

"Come and sit, Atalante," said the Alpha in a tone that made her quiver with trepidation.

She walked to sit in a seat across from the mahogany writing desk that came between them. She laid her hands awkwardly on her lap, and flashed a polite smile on her face like Arthur had instructed.

Once the luna got off of his lap, he put his full attention on her just then. "Why weren't you at the meeting today?" he questioned in a harsh tone.

Atalante took a deep breath and closed her eyes, collecting her thoughts. When she opened them, she kept her eyes glued to her thighs. "Well as you know, Alpha sir, I'm a bit of an introvert so I take night classes at one of the local high schools. It's a bit more challenging since the curriculums is all jammed up into three short hours and the examinations are crucial. There is such an exam this Friday so I was preparing for it and well that kind of knocked me out..." She spoke in one breath to just get it all out before she began to mumble.

"Listen, here, Atalante. You have a duty to this pack. Grades are good and all but--"

"Sweetheart, I have an idea," the Luna excitedly interrupted.

"Lindsey.."

"Oh hush, darling," said the Luna, patting his shoulder and walking around the desk to face her. "Atalante, why don't you stay here at the pack house until the Lunar Eclipse Ceremony. We can put you in the vacant room next to Averey's. He can keep an eye on you and make sure that you get to the meetings on time and all that ritual stuff."

"Move?" her eyes were wide open.

"Lin, I don't think--"

The desk clanked at the same time that the Alpha moaned in pain. "It's settled," she said. "Atalante, honey. Get some things together and by six I'll have the room all ready for you."

That was it. Case closed. What could she say? Hell no to the Luna? Get real. If she did, it would be the same as signing her own death certificate. She could only smile agree and leave with some grace.

My life is over.
