Children's Books (ages 8 and under)

There was once a cat named Maxene but for short, Max. Everyday Max got laughed at because of his fur color was red, and no other cat had red fur. The other cats would call him names like "uh oh! Everyone got their milk, cause here comes the lame sauce!". Max cried every day at these rude jokes. One day, when Max was on his way home from school, the cats caught up to him and surrounded him. "H-hi guys what are you doing here? I never see you walk this way." said Max. The cats laughed, and one of them clawed him on his face, "OUCH! What was that for?!" Max asked. The other cats didn't reply they just kept laughing and laughing at him, that's when Max couldn't take it anymore. He ran, ran hard and fast, tears filling his eyes. When he got home he cried in his mother's lap and told her what happened as his mother put a bandaid over his scratch mark and kissed it. She said " they just don't realize how special you are Max, your red fur shows how you can warm others hearts. The cats that hurt you just haven't realized that just yet" Max looked up at his mother and said " what should I do then?"

"show them how special you are and don't be a single bit embarrassed" and with that max smiled and curled up into a little ball and fell asleep.

The next day Max ran to school to the cats that made fun of him. "Well lookie here, it's lame sauce, come back for more?" said on of the cats, Max gulped, but then remembered what his mother said. Max stood firm and tall and said " listen, I don't like what you're doing just because I have red fur doesn't make me weird, it makes me different, and I'm special that way."

"your fur isn't proof that your special! " said the biggest cat.

"yes it does! It shows how I'm different, and I'm different by warming other cats hearts!" Max might have raised his voice a bit but that didn't matter because he was finally standing up for himself.

"okay then" said the tallest one " if you're supposed to warm other cats hearts, then I want you too....." the tallest one looked around until he spotted the perfect cat "warm scrawny tauny's heart"

"ok I will! By the way, she has a name" said Max. Max walked over to the she-cat who was licking her paws, Max sat in front of her and said "hi!" scrawny tauny looked up and said "hello" Max noticed she wasn't scrawny at all she looked perfectly fine, her fur was orange and black like a tiger, her eyes were like red rubies. She looked beautiful. That's when Max said "what's your name?"

"Tigeress. what's your name?"

" I'm Max. I like your fur"

Tigeress smiled really big, big enough to show her perfectly white teeth.

" no cat has ever talked to me like that before. THANK YOU" and with that tigeress hugged max as he whispered in her ear "anything for a new best friend".
