The curly haired teenager entered the Salvatore boarding house whining. The eldest Salvatore, whom she followed closely, rolled his blue eyes at her.
"But Damon! I do not need your help with Maths." She said for the third time. She plopped her body on the couch crossing her arms. Once Damon spotted this form of rebellion he sighed.
"Look, Renesmee. Bella, your mother and my best friend, made it clear that she wants you alive after she comes back from Alaska, so please, help me out here." He pleaded desperation in his voice.
He is trying to be a father figure, she thought feeling slightly hurt.
"Damon. I do not need help with Maths. I need help with something else." She said sending him a knowing look.
She needs help with the pain that was caused by his death, he thought, How stupid of me to try to be a father figure, especially after he is gone.
"I can't. You know I can't help you with that Renny, I'm sorry." He apologized trowing the Math textbook he was holding in his hands on the other side of the living room and embracing the young half-vampire in his arms. Once she felt his muscular arms holding her, the sobs broke the silence between the two that was a few moments ago filled with the two bickering. But now, it hit her stronger than a slap across the face.
Her father was dead. Killed. Gone. And there was nothing she could do about it other than to try to survive it.
"OK, I am not going to let you cry anymore. C'mon what do you want to do?" He said breaking their hug and pouring himself a glass of bourbon. Renesmee wiped the tears away and flashed a forced smile.
"I am hungry." She noted out already knowing what will the vampire offer as a meal. As he heard that, his face lit up.
"Pancakes?" He asked making the seventeen year old looking girl giggle.
Taking that as a yes, he started gathering the ingredients. She sat on the counter looking at his actions. She always did that, ever since she was little and Bella and Esme made cookies. Now her mother is in Alaska breaking the news of her father's death to their cousins, Tanya and Kate, and her grandma Esme was back in Forks. God, she missed her grandparents.
For the sake of the meal Damon was preparing, she pushed the disturbing thoughts in the back of her mind trying to forget about them.
Some time pasted and Damon was placing the pancaked on their plates. But something else caught Renesmee's attention. She heard someone walking towards the living room door. Suddenly the footsteps became louder and Stefan Salvatore, Renesmee's ex, appeared at the door frame looking at her with his beautiful green eyes. The moment she noticed him, she jumped of the counter walking towards the door leaving. She had a cold stare replace the warm smile that captured her face a moment ago.
"C'mon Damon, let's get outta of here." She ordered and heard him whine.
"What about the pancakes?!" He started walking towards the door once he spotted his younger brother standing there.
Here's the less complicated version of explaining the Stefan-Renesmee relationship. She moved to Mystic Falls just as Delena hit it off and Stefan was broken. She was there to heal wounds. As they got to know each other, Renesmee realized that she loved the youngest Salvatore. And he loved her.
After year and a half of dating and loving each other, Stefan decided that he could not be beside her as she mourned her father. He decided that it was easier to help Caroline with the same pain. And she hated them both for it.
She hated that she was not the one. That is why she left the boarding house. That why she sat in her car and drove away.
She hated the pain.
