This book club operates on a buddy system/group pairing. You'll be paired up with other members based on your application and have a week to read the assigned amount of chapters. However, at the end of each term you can opt to stay with your group/partner instead of being moved to another one if please. Groups are up to three people. Pairings are clearly two.
There are two levels of commenting here.
Level one: Normal. This could be anything as long as it's more than "I liked this". Comments like these tend to be more reactionary, focusing wholly on how you as a reader are reacting to the story as it goes on, talking about characters, plot, etc.
Level two: Critiques. These tend to be a more in depth analysis of what's been read.
No matter what level each week you must read at least 3 chapters (or less depending on how much is posted) of the work and tag them #duckfiends so that they're easy to find. Unless there's a problem you'll always be paired with someone who gives the same level of comments as yourself.
There will also be a book of the week that is optional to read for everyone else but will receive a short review of the first five (or less depending on how much is posted) chapters that will be posted in this book by the gracious club leader.
The book of the week is chosen by:
A) Who does the most in their group
and
B) the books of the candidates are put into a roller and chosen at random so that it's fair.
No book can be book of the week twice in a row.
The only genres this book club takes is original works that fall under the fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction categories and all of its subgenres. This book club also takes mature work but no one not willing to read it will be paired with those who write it. This book club is also very accepting of the LGBT community and its characters so they are more than welcome here.
