My name is Anaya Lí. That's not my real last name but it's the one I gave myself being that I'm a orphan.
As far as I was told I was dropped off here by a woman in a red hoodie. The people at the foster center says that it was probably my mother and she dropped me off when I was only about a month.
I got kicked out the foster house when I turned 18 cause I was officially legal and a grown women. Can you believe it? 18 years and not one family wanted to make me in to there arms. I felt useless every single time it was my birthday cause it just meant I was getting older with no family.
I was able to get some deals in the streets and sell some shit to get myself a place in the projects. It's nothing big and fancy but I'm grateful for it and happy that I'm not in the streets.
After I was able to get a place I gave up on the streets. I only wanted the money to get a place to live and stabilize myself.
Today's my birthday and I turn 20. I work at the local diner as a waitress and sometimes cashier. It's not a lot of money but it's enough money to feed me and pay the rent so I don't really complain.
I go to a community college and my dream is to get my diploma and own my own business. I love to do hair and I would like to own my own beauty salon/ barber shop. Or maybe just run a small business I'm still not sure.
I save every single tip I make and at that rate who knows when I'll be able to move out of here. But one things for sure I gotta make it work.

I left the community college and walked home. I was happy that everything was in a walking distance for me and that I didn't need a car to travel anywhere.
Cause I know dam well I couldn't buy a car.
"Anaya baby girl you looking good as ever how are you?" One of the dudes posted on the step asked.
They literally stay here from morning to night trying to bag a girl instead of bagging a job.
They claim they watch the building for intruders and keep it safe.
Don't do drugs kids.
"I'm fine thank you." I said taking out my key.
"Aye you finally ready to settle down with a real nigga? I'll take good care of you." Another guy said.
"Oh please you can't even take care of yourself." I said opening the door.
This made them erupt in laughter and made me smile. "Bye guys I'll see you later." I said going to the elevator.
I went in and pressed floor 7. I waited till it hit the floor and walked to my apartment dragging my bookbag.
I opened the door and threw my bookbag on the floor. Today I had a day off because it's my birthday and decided to go and spoil myself.
I grabbed $20 and my keys and went back downstairs to buy myself a ice cream cake from 7/11.
"Going again?" The guys asked.
"Yup. If I don't come back in 20 minutes call the cops." I said laughing.
They started to laugh as I walked down the block to the nearest 7/11. It was dark out probably cause it 9:30. I walked in the 7/11 and it was pretty much empty.
I walked all the way to the back to where they keep the frozen cakes.
I picked out a vanilla ice cream cake with sprinkles and walked over to pay for it.
"Your total is 16 dollars and may I ask who's birthday it is?" The cashier asked.
I pulled out the 20 and gave it to him. "It's my birthday." I replied smiling.
"Really? You know what how about I give it to you for 10, since it is your birthday." He said.
I smiled at him. "Wow thanks it really means a lot." I said.
"No problem. Happy Birthday." He said.
I walked out the store and when I did I immediately regretted it. Somebody ran by and knocked me down knocking me and the cake on the floor.
The amount of pain I felt in my heart was indescribable.
"Shit watch out bitch." He said continuing to run.
"Ricky man. You gotta watch where you going." A guy with a mask said picking me up.
My heart started to pound and my eyes got wide when I saw it.
Only niggas that do robberies would wear a black mask at 9:00 at night.
"Look at your cake. Dam Ricky." The nigga said.
"Man forget the cake and forget the girl we gotta-"
The sound of gunshots cut him off.
"Let's go." Ricky said running.
The guy looked at Ricky and then at me.
"Come on it's not safe here." He said.
I only went with him cause I didn't wanna get stuck here and die. I got up and ran and we ran together. We all continue to run till we turned in to a alley way and was faced with a gate.
"We gotta climb the gate. There's no way shorty can climb it I told you to leave her." Ricky said.
I rolled my eyes and started to climb the gate. I didn't care about what niggas thought all I cared about was my life.
Plus it's not that hard to climb a gate.
I hit the floor and looked over to see the other two hit the floor with me.
"Come on over here." The guy said pulling me in to a van.
Before I had a chance to say no I was already in.
The van door closed and the driver sped up. He spend off so fast that I rolled back in the car and banged my head on something hard making me black out.
