"Catch me if you can!" I yelled to my two bestest friends ever, Alasne and Sadie. My name is Layren, and the three of had been best friends since kindergarten, through the years, through thick and thin. We were all in grade eight, and super excited for our champagne birthday. It's remarkable that we all have the same birthday, January 14th.
"Layren, wait up! I can't sled as fast as you!" Alasne yelled as Sadie nodded.
"Okay," I groaned. "Do you want to make forts instead?" I had the perfect idea for one.
"Sure! Mine is going to be better than all yours!" Sadie smirked.
"You think you're going to build the best one? Good luck!" Alasne taunted.
I left them to their bickering and got a head start on mine as I started to dig. Okay, I thought. I'm digging the bedroom right now, the en suite is to the right, the living room is to the left- wait! What is that? I bent down and reached for the necklace caught in the fluffy white snow. It slowly came unstuck, it's pendant in the dragon claw mesmerising.
"What is it?" I murmured, spinning it ever so slowly. Both my friends turned to look at me, confused.
"Layren? Are you okay?" Alasne asked. "You look so pale..."
"I'm fine... come look at this! It's a dragon claw clutching a pendant. It looks ancient!" I exclaimed.
"Woah, it's so pretty!" Sadie exclaimed.
I gingerly took off my glove and touched the crystal inside. There was a bright flash and - I felt completely different. The snow swirled around me in a whirlwind. I saw the same happening to Alasne and Sadie. My vision grew sharper, my sense of smell keener, and my hearing better. In the sudden sharpness that I saw in, my head grew dizzy. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to subside. Soon after, I gently and slowly opened my eyes and saw my nose - my snout - in front of me! I looked down at my hands and feet, they had turned into claws and I grew a tail. I stretched out my wings - I was a dragon!
