Chapter 18: Parcheesi ‘Again’?

Ryan’s POV:

I was wheeling Lynsey back to the living room, trying to peel the stupid grin that had attached itself to my face off. I just kissed Lynsey, actually kissed her. I got to the living room and when I saw all three of the others there I brought my smile away and just grinned a little bit.

“Finally.” Daniel said when he saw us with the flashlights, “It’s about time.”

I handed everyone a flashlight and sat down in the empty chair.

“So what do we do now?” Payton asked looking up from her phone.

“Um. We could get out a board game?” Shawn suggested and we all agreed that it sounded like a good idea.

Payton went over to the closet where they keep their board games and pulled out a box.

“Oh my goodness,” she looked at Lynsey, “You have Parcheesi!”

“Yeah?” Lynsey laughed.

“We have to play this. Come on we just have to.” she pleaded.

“I don’t know how, but I’m willing to learn.” I smiled.

“Hey Shawn.” Lynsey said as Payton got out all of the pieces and was explaining the directions.

“Yeah?” he looked over at her.

“Can you go and get that battery powered lamp from my room so that we can see better?” she asked him

“Yeah. Good idea.” he got up and headed for her room.

“Wait.” Daniel interrupted Payton as she was still explaining the game to me, “This is a four player game, and there are five of us.”

Payton frowned not thinking of that. Man she really wanted to play this game.

“It’s okay.” I said, “I can just team with Daniel, I still don’t really understand it still, so it will be good.”

“Alright!” Payton said as she finished setting up the game.

“I call the Elephants!” Lynsey screamed as Payton turned the board so that the elephants were facing Lynsey.

“Okay and I want the Camels.” she said, positioning herself to have the camels in front of her.

“Buffalo!” we all turned our heads to see Shawn coming back with the lamp.

“What took you so long?” Lynsey laughed.

“I couldn’t find it.”

“Liar!” Lynsey screamed, “You totally just lied!”

“Dammit.” Shawn said under his breath, “I forgot about that.”

“Forgot about what?” I asked.

Shawn turned to me, “Lynsey has some weird-like gifted talent of being able to tell when someone is lying. Ever. No matter how hard you try to hide it.”

I turned to Lynsey and she smiled, then shrugged. “Now,” she started, “What were you really doing?”

Shawn put the lamp on the table and went over to sit down, trying not to look at Lynsey, who had her eyes burning into him. He looked over at Daniel.

Daniel cleared his throat, “Okay so we are Tigers then. Shall we get started?”

“This conversation is not over Shawn.” Lynsey said as he looked over at her, “We will talk about this later.”

We started to play Parcheesi and it was actually really fun. We played through and Payton won. It was seven when we were done and we decided that we should probably get dinner after Daniel’s stomach made the loudest noise. Payton and Lynsey went to the kitchen to get some food from the fridge. But we didn’t have any electricity so, I don’t know what dinner is going to be. It’s definitely going to be interesting.

Lynsey’s POV:

Payton and I made our way to the kitchen for “dinner”.

She walked towards the freezer and opened it, pulling out the chicken nuggets and placing them on the counter. I bit down on my bottom lip, trying my best not to laugh at her obliviousness. She looked over at me able to tell that I was trying to contain my laughter. “What?”

“Oh nothing.” I let out. And she looked at me confused, trying to open the bag, but couldn’t do it.

“Ugh!” she screamed after trying for minutes, just making it harder for me to contain my laughter. “Can you open this?” she pointed to the bag outraged.

I decided that I should tell her before she starts to throw stuff, “I could, but let me ask you something first.”

She looked at me interested, thinking I was going to tell her some like juicy secret or something.

I laughed under my breath before speaking, “How do you suppose we cook them?”

She looked at me like I was a complete idiot before speaking, “Well in the ov…” I couldn’t contain my laughter anymore and she finally realised her blunder. She frowned and grabbed the bag, throwing it back into the freezer, slamming the door. She glared at me as I calmed down, “Shut-up.”

My laughter died down and she spoke, “So what do you suppose we make for dinner?”

I shrugged and thought for a second. “Um… sandwiches?”

She shrugged this time, “Better than nothing.”

“Yeah, and frozen chicken nuggets.” I mumbled.

“What?” she said sternly.

“Nothing.” I lied, “Let’s just get the peanut butter.”
She shot me another one of her famous glares before getting out the bread, chips, and the plates. I got the peanut butter, knifes, jelly, and I got out fluff for Payton’s and my sandwiches. We made them quickly and brought the sandwiches out to the boys who were all on their phones. “Food!” Daniel screamed and all the boys looked up instantly. Typical.

We passed out the sandwiches and placed the bag of chips on the table.

“Hey!” Daniel added, “Why do you guys get fluff and we get jelly?”

“Oh just eat the damn thing.” I said and he stuck his tongue out at me like an immature child. So I did the adult-like thing and stuck my tongue back out at him.

We all ate our food and the full bag of chips was gone in a matter of minutes.

After we were done Shawn took all the plates and empty bag to the kitchen and throw it out. For another hour or so we all just talked and shared stories and what not.

Every once in a while I’d catch Ryan look over at me and wink, my cheeks burnt every time. I think Payton may have seen once, or twice.

The last time it happened, he smiled mischievously before raising an eyebrow and mouthing, “Again?” I nodded and bit my lip showing him that I understood and that I wanted the same thing, and soon. His smile widened.

This was a good night, storm and all.
