"Come on!" I yelled to my partner, "the games a foot!"

"You're not Sherlo- slow down!"

I charged down the street as Mike Johnson, my Watson, tried to keep up. He has always been slow. He has brown hair that hung past his eyes and a happy smile. It bothers him when I act like Sherlock Holmes, but he is my inspiration. I was just the nerdy girl that constantly was reading and just watching people play instead of joining them. That was until Mike came. He helped me to realize my talent for figuring people out. Now he is my partner at Sparrow Detective Agency. We help people nobody else will, as Sherlock did. Right now we are on a case about someone who steals from everyone and anyone but refuses to kill. And now I have a lead.

"Wait!" He yelled at me, " you can't just charge forward without watching where you are going!"

I turned slightly to smirk at him and regretted it immediately as I slammed into a tree and went crashing to the ground.

"Told you," he said as he caught up. "Be careful." He held out his hand and helped me up.

"Just in time!" I looked at the person walking across the street ignoring Mike. "Lux! You are coming with us!"

"Dang it!" He yelled, "Jess!"

I tried to run forward but a pain in my knee stopped me. Mike grabbed my arm and helped me steady myself. "Get him!" Mike let go of my arm and charged forward.

"Jess!" Lux yelled as he ran. His arms flailing behind him and his coat too big on his small body.

I started to limp forward with a triumphant smirk on my face when Bang! Something hit me in the head. I felt myself fall and hit the ground. There was a moan and I realized it came from my lips.

"Nat!" Mike screamed as he turned towards me. He sprinted and left Lux standing in disbelief. Then, the unthinkable happened, Lux ran to me too.

"Jess, what did you do?" I heard Lux say as though speaking underwater.

"You wanted me to stop them." I heard her murmur.

"No, no one was supposed to get hurt!" Lux yelled, but all I heard was a whisper.

"Nat, look at me," Mike looked worriedly at me as I lay unmoving on the concrete ground. "Nat, please."

I stared upward to where his sweet voice was coming from. But it was impossible for me to focus on him. The only thing I could do was look past him at the sky. The beautiful, blue sky. There was not a cloud in sight.

"Nat, please look at me." He pleaded shining a flashlight into my eyes. I didn't even blink when I saw its one bright eye looking at me. "Her pupils arent dialating. Why didn't I continue that first aid class?!" He said to himself "You were hit with a brick, Nat. She hit you with a brick."

"I'm sorry, this wasn't supposed to happen." Lux's voice sounded like the wind whispering on a summer night. He directed his words to Jess, "What were you thinking? You aren't here to kill people."

I looked up to where his partner was standing unable to focus on her either, I closed my eyes and sank into unconsciousness.

The next thing I knew there was a feeling of something cold on my wrists. It felt like we were moving, pretty fast. As I opened my eyes I saw my hands, cuffed to the door of a truck. To my left was Mike, by the look on his face I could tell he was frustrated. He noticed me move and turned to me.

"Nat, are you okay?" He asked as he tried to move closer. But the cuffs restrained him. "Let us go!" He turned back to Lux in the drivers seat. "Look at her. She's hurt. We need to go to the hospital!"

"No, they'll ask what happened. Im not getting in trouble for hurting someone."

"But you'll steal from everyone! That makes no sense." Mike said frustrated.

"I'm a pacifist, okay!" Lux yelled as he slammed on the brakes, sending Mike and me into the front seats. I let out a moan as a pain welled in my head. He turned around and glared at me, my head bobbing. It took all my strength to hold my gaze on his eyes. "Get out. Jess take off the cuffs."

Jess got out of the car and unlocked my handcuffs. My arms fell to my sides as I tried to get up. Instead, a wave of pain washed over me and I grabbed my head.

"Nat, whats wrong!? Are you okay!?" Mike yelled as Jess uncuffed him. He ran over to my side of the car and put his hand on my shoulder. I nodded as the pain subsided.

"Get out!" Lux yelled at us as Mike put his arms around my shoulders and under my knees. He lifted me out of the car and set me down on the side of the road, and closed the car door. As soon as the door slammed Lux and Jess took off.

"Nat, are you okay?" He asked worridly feeling my head where I was hit. "You need to get to a hospital and get checked out. Can you stand?"

I nodded, "Yes," and grabbed his hand to stand up. I swayed as my head throbbed and leaned against him. Mike stared at me as we started to walk forward slowly, hoping for a car to drive past. Past the pain all I could think about was Lux. Why is he acting like this? Why does he steal? He's rich enough based on the information I found.

Lux was from a rich family, he inherited millions when his parents died in a car crash. There are no records of him losing his money, actually there are no records of him spending any of it. Its all still in the bank. This makes no sense.

As I was trying to figure out what happened, Mike stopped moving and I realized there was a car stopped next to us. I didn't even hear it stop. I looked as the window rolled down and a man of about sixty looked at us.

"Do you need a lift? Is she okay?" He asked as he looked at me. He had an accent, probably from Louisiana.

"Can you take us to the closest hospital? Please, we can pay you." Mike asked taking his wallet out if his pocket.

"No need" he said, "I'll do anything for Natalia."

I smiled at him as he unlocked the car doors. As Mike helped me get in the car he started at me and asked "You know him? When we're you going to tell me?"

"You never asked." I responded as we drove away.

We were dropped off at the hospital, but as soon as I stood up my head throbbed and I fell. The only thing I could do was hold my head as Mike picked me up. As I closed my eyes I felt him lay me down on a gurney.

I opened my eyes to Mike standing by the door talking to the nurse. I could only hear part of the conversation.

"...should... dead." She said.

Mike looked up at her with unbelieving eyes. "No... not possible."

"Her brain... it's...miracle.."

I put my head on the pillow as mike walked up to me. He placed his hand on my shoulder, unknowing I was awake.

"You have to get better. The nurse said its a miracle you've survived. Please get better. What will your clients do?" He sighed, kissed my forehead and left the room.
