Just don't wake me up now by emotionalwreck

The cool breeze hits my face, turning the tip of my nose red. It's only September I don't understand how it's already in the fifties. Back home it would still feel like summer, with the sun shining down, I could be at the beach in shorts and a tank top. Now my shorts have been swapped with jeans and my tank top replaced with an oversized sweater. I get in my car, turning the heat on immediately and drive the now familiar route to the coffee shop down the street. This has been my routine the past week, making me feel more settled in. Despite, my words to Harry I hadn't been to the bakery since my last visit but, the shy boy hadn't escaped my mind. I noticed every fleeting glance towards me he'd take when he thought I wasn't looking, the way he glared when I was with Zayn. It was almost endearing how he paid attention to me. Granted, nearly every male at the school had been paying very close attention to me the past week. But Harry intrigued me. I wanted to see how far I could push him out of his comfort zone.
Pulling into Kitridge, I notice the lot was emptier than usual. I groaned realizing I was early and would have to sit here by myself. My hands grip my warm coffee as I head to my locker. I'm shocked to see someone else is in the halls this early but, as I realize who it is the shock goes away.
"Long time no see Harry," I smile at him as he jumps at the sound of my voice. He stares at me as if I've grown a second head when I lean against the locker next to him.
Gaining his composure he speaks, "We have three classes together, you see me every day". I raise my eyebrow at his response and he shifts nervously.
"That doesn't count you don't talk to me in class," I playfully pout and cross my arms in mock anger.
"I'm s-sorry?" Harry looks completely lost, like a confused puppy.
"Harry you're cute," I laugh lightly. Harry's eyes go wide and he's giving me the same look from the beginning of our conversation. "It's not nice to stare at people like that Harry,"
"Oh um sorry I didn't mean to be rude,"
"You apologize too much,"
"Sor- I mean um I don't know what to say,"
I decide he's had enough torture for today so I just laugh and start to walk away, "See you around Harry," I hear him shut his locker and scurry away in the direction of our homeroom. Class doesn't even start for another fifteen minutes, I wonder if the teacher is even here yet. I make my way towards the other side of the hall, taking a seat directly in front of Zayn's locker. A few people whose names I haven't bothered to memorize greet me, I simply smile at them and hope Zayn hurries up before one of them decides to try and talk to me. My wish is granted as I see Zayn's smirking face walking this way.
"Waiting for me babe? How sweet," Zayn offers his hand to help me up but, I ignore it pushing myself off the ground. He shakes his head, used to my attitude by now. "Don't act like you don't love me sweetheart,"
"I talk to you because I get bored,"
"That's the same reason why you bother talking to anyone," He rolls his eyes at me.
"There's a brain in that pretty little head of yours after all," I smile as sweetly as possible at him.
Zayn laughs at my response, "You're going out with me tonight babe,"
"No," I curtly reply, still smirking.
"I didn't ask Andy," He gives me a hard glare, and I raise my hands in surrender.
"Where are we going?" My tone is disinterested despite my curiosity to see where he wants me to go so badly.
"A bonfire, down by the river. Everyone is going to be there. It's a good place for every guy to see you're off limits," He winks at me, before licking his lips a habit I've noticed he has.
"But I'm not off limits babe," Zayn looks highly unamused by my words and I laugh. "See you in homeroom," Before he can respond I head down the hallway, right as the five minute bell rings. Instead of taking my familiar seat in the back I opt to sit next to my favorite admirer. Harry doesn't even look up as I sit next to him. Expectantly, I look towards him, waiting for him to notice my presence. He continues to read his book, not paying me the slightest of attention to me. Deciding against starting the conversation myself, I pull out some work due in my English class today.
I'm so consumed in my writing I almost don't hear Harry's comment, "Why do you talk to Zayn?" His voice is demanding but still quiet, polite.
I look at him for a while before answering, "Why shouldn't I?"
"He's just not a very nice person,"
"Neither am I," He looks taken back by my reply.
"Yes you are Andy," For once, I'm the uncomfortable one under Harry's stare.
"You don't know what you're talking about Harry," Harry doesn't say anything more he, just goes back to his book, glancing at occasionally. I return to my work glad the conversation is over. Maybe Harry isn't as fun to play with as I thought.
The bell for lunch rings and I leave fourth period glad to only have a few classes left today. Not wanting to wait in the line for food, I walk up to a group of guys I faintly recognize from my Physics class - Niall and Louis I think.
"Hey could you guys grab me some food? I don't really feel like waiting," I pull out my money from my picket and hold it out to them, smiling brightly.
"Sure thing Andy," The blonde one says, his smile matching mine. I believe he's Niall. I notice that his accent doesn't sound British.
"Are you not from here? Your accent is different," I ask and he laughs. He has one of those laughs that make you want to laugh with him.
"Niall here is from Ireland, our very own leprechaun," Louis answers for him. I'm proud of myself for actually getting Niall's name right.
"That's cool. You both play soccer with Zayn right?" I'm not quite sure why I'm still talking to them but, they seem interesting enough.
"No we both play football - er soccer but, we play outside of school," Niall says his smile never leaving his face. I'll admit his happy attitude is contagious.
"Yeah we don't have the pleasure of playing with the great Zayn Malik," Louis' voice is dripping with sarcasm and Niall nudges him in the ribs.
"You're not missing out on much, just a lot of demands and terrible attempts at flirting," The two boys laugh at my words. I realize that I ended up waiting with them the entire time they were in line, completely defeating my original purpose. Louis and Niall invite me to sit with them and their friends and I oblige. The boys introduce me to a small group of people, whose name I try to remember for the remainder of lunch. I learn that they will all be at the bonfire tonight and I promise to find them later. Louis' girlfriend, Eleanor, offers to help me pick out something to wear but I decline her offer saying I have too much work to do. The rest of lunch and the day fly by without anything particularly exciting happening. I'm at my locker after school gathering my things, and I'm greeted by the familiar scent of tobacco letting me know Zayn is near.
"Louis and Niall huh? Here I thought I was the only guy you flirted with," He raises an eyebrow at me, obviously displeased by me not sitting with him.
"Jealousy isn't attractive on anyone Zayn, and don't worry I might flirt with other boys but you're still my favorite toy," Zayn's jaw clenches at my choice of words and my condescending tone.
"Be ready by 6," Zayn spits before angrily stalking off, pushing people out of his way. Someone needs to lighten up.
