It all started a year ago on a warm summer night. I had never been the popular type or the girl that anyone really knew. Then I started talking and hanging out with Alexis Smith. She was the one that everyone wanted to be. Invited to all the parties, desired by everyone. Everything. One day she was invited to a party and told to bring a friend. She invited me of all people. Why? I don't know, but she did. I wasn't going to tell her no though so I went.
Low and behold, it was at the guy's house that I've liked since 4th grade. His name was Chanlor. He was another one of those people desired by everyone and invited to all the parties if he wasn't the one having them. So I naturally never thought he would notice me. Until that night.
When we got to the party, Alexis left me and went to do God only knows what so I was by myself. I didn't know anyone else there obviously so I decided to sit over by the fire and wait for Alexis. That's when it happened. He actually noticed me. Chanlor Jones was actually talking to me. We were just sitting there talking about life and anything we could think of pretty much to keep the conversation going. Then he asked me if I wanted a drink and if I wanted a tour around the cabin. Naturally I said yes because I was caught up in the moment.
We got up to the cabin and he started acting even more weird. Not in a bad way though. Just a lot more talkative and nicer. We were sitting on the couch talking and I looked at him and he kissed me. It may of been because we were both drunk but he definitely had something else on his mind. That's when I heard it. It was like a little buzzing noise in my ear and then something broke. I immediately sat up and asked if he was sure we were alone. He said he was positive and told me to relax but I was on edge after that.
That's when the shadows started. At first I just thought it was because I was drunk and high and the guy I've liked forever finally noticed me. But they were getting worse by the minute. Then everything went up in flames. Before I even knew what happened, I was outside and Chanlor was nowhere to be found. In a split second Alexis was at my side asking "Where's Chanlor? Logan, where is he?!" and all I could say was "I'm so sorry. It's my fault." The only friend I had turned on me in literally 2 seconds. She looked at me and told me "Nobody will ever like you. You're just a lowlife freak!"
Today, I'm on my way to Sword and Cross Academy. Basically, it's a school for people that have something wrong with them and don't know how to control it. As soon as I get there, there's security at the door that does a full body check and takes anything I have that's metal. Including my phone that I only get for 10 minutes each week. As the principal is talking to me and telling me all of the rules, a cop car pulls up. The guy that gets out of the car is actually kinda hot. And he keeps staring at me. As I go to find my room, Erica comes up to me and walks with me. She immediately warns me about Zak. The guy that came in the cop car. She told me that he's trouble... And not the good kind.
A few weeks later, I was on my way to class and Zak was sitting on the stairs and asked me if I wanted to go for breakfast. I told him I was late for class and he looked at me and said "Better never than late". So we went for breakfast. Well, he actually stole two coffees and some muffins from the faculty's lounge. He started asking me about why I was there and I wouldn't tell him so he looked at me and said "Maybe you are as innocent as you look.". I asked why he was here and he said "I'm here because I do what I want to when I want to.".
I told him that he was pretty much a risk taker and he said "If the reward is worth the consequence, I don't see why not". Then the bell rang and broke our stare we had going. After that, we had our next class together so we walked together. We were in class listening to our teacher tell us about how even the demons in hell were once angels in heaven but they were banned to hell after deciding to not believe in love and those who did believe in true love stayed in heaven. However, there were still angels that could not decide whether or not they believed and those angels were forced back to earth until they made their decisions and are known as the Rebel Angels.
