Chapter 1

I hoped over the cracks in the sidewalk. The sun was behind the trees, so it was colder then it was in the sun. My name is Liz. Liz Madden. I'm 15, and only have one friend. And her boyfriend. Which I don't think really counts. I could only dream of a boyfriend, let alone another friend. I didn't let it get to me to much.

I walked through the front door and went strait to fridge. I was hungry, As always.

"Hi Liz." Someone said.

It made me jump. I spun around on my heals. it was just my mom.

"Hey mom." I replied, turning back to the fridge. I grabbed some pudding. and say down at the table. We had a small house, but not too small. like a mountain house... without the mountain or outdated design. I started on my homework. Not a lot today. That means more time in the woods.

I finished my homework and ran to my room. I grabbed my bow and arrows. I loved shooting the bow. it was my get away. I had my dad's strength. But I would never know. He left when I was only four months old. I also had his green eyes. I had sparking emerald eyes, and my mothers light brown hair. I usually wore jeans, combat boots, and my gray sweat shirt. It had a picture of a rose on it. I didn't know what shirt I was wearing underneath, probably what ever I could find. I never took it off anyway.

I walked in to the woods, with my bow slung across my back. I took a deep breath and started walking to the spot were I always shoot. I lived next to my crush. Isn't that something. I can barely even talk to him. His name was Adam. He had soft brown eyes, and and dirty blond hair that flipped up in the front. He was also captain of the football team, and every fit. Probably the cutes boy in school, in my opinion. I loaded my bow and shoot at my makeshift target. I shot over and over, getting all in the center target.

"Your good at that."

I spun around with an arrow ready to fly. There standing there with his hands up, was Adam. I lowered my bow and stared. Why was he here, I didn't think he knew I was alive.

"Umm thank you." I said in a low voice.

"Your welcome." He replied.

"How did you know I was here"? I asked.

"I watched you every day. you come here every day at the same time." he shrugged like it was no big deal.

I stared at him with my mouth open. I had been watch every day by my crush. and I didn't know about it.

"Why are you staring at me"? he asked.

"Why were you watching me"? I said, not bothering to answer his question. He bit his lip and finally said,

"Your cute."

"I am"? I was surprised.

"Well, yes" he said.

I stared at him. I was just called cute, by the only person I had ever liked? He smiled.

"I guess you think I'm cute to"?

This kid was smooth. I nod.

"Can you show me how to shoot"? he asked.

"I think so." I replied

I went through the basics, loading it, pulling it back, and shooting it. I shoot once and got it dead center. He laugh.

"That's pretty good, now let's see how I do." He smirked, and loaded and arrow. Then let it fly. It went just above the target. He frowned.

"That's harder then it looks." He said.

We both laughed and I went to get the arrow. It was stuck in a tree not far behind the target. Adam had followed me. I grasped the arrow and pulled. It didn't budge. I pulled harder and it still didn't come out.
