Emma and Brooke’s father walked away when Emma was nine and Brooke was just five. Their mother became drunken and depressed, and almost six years later, on one dark and stormy night, she disappeared too. Underage, unable to care for themselves, the Andersen sisters fight to stay together. Brooke is sent to live with her great aunt and Emma finds herself in boarding school. She runs away to bring her sister back and together they escape. The sisters find an abandoned home; however they don’t manage to stay for very long. They are discovered by Child Protective Services, who take both to separate orphanages. When Emma turns eighteen, she goes off to a good college. Brooke, who believes her sister has left her forever, becomes secluded and upset. However, the middle of that first year as a freshman in college, Emma comes back in full glory, taking claim as her sister’s guardian. The two live together in an apartment by NYU. The fun never ends for the redheaded, fiery Andersen sisters. There are boys and growing up and constant changes and problems. How can two sisters who argue and hate each other all the time but among all that love each other to death, manage to live? There is a need for money, there is hate, there is love and there is loss.
But life goes on anyway.
