Sleeping on the streets wasn't always a dream life for me, but it happened I accept. You find out what people are really like when your living on the street, some people look at you like your nothing, others will help you in ever was possible. We all have problems, we all have a story to tell. This is mine.
Growing up I always wanted to be like my mother, her and my father struggled but I had an amazing childhood, that is until the day that ruined my left forever.
Curled up in a door way of a closed down sweet shop I couldn't help think about my parents and the life I left behind. At the age of 13 I was put into care, and no it wasn't anything like the film Annie a millionaire didn't just turn up and adopt me like I thought they would, I went from home to home, with countless drug dealers and abusive parents. Yea some days iv thought about ending it all but I know my mum and dad wouldn't have wanted that.
If only someone would give me the chance.
"Excuse me sir do you have any spare change?" I said as a man in a suit walked past me. He stopped and turned to my direction with a smirk on his face. "$100 in it for you if you want a bit of fun" yea that definitely wasn't happening. I wanted to get right in his face and tell him just because I am a woman sleeping rough does not give him the right to assume I will accept money for sex, but I didn't. The amount of times I'd stuck up for myself and been battered or verbally abused was endless. "No thank you" I said with the most discussed look on my face, he was wearing a black suit with a white shirt and black tie, his shirt was that tight on his the buttons looked they would burst if he even sat down. Anyway he got the message from my fave that i thought he was the mosy disgusting man id ever layed eyes on. "Why don't you get yourself a real job and provide for yourself you slut" as he walked away laughing I could feel the anger building up in side me. That has always been my problem I couldn't keep my bloody mouth shut "Why don't you find yourself a real girlfriend so you don't have to tempt woman with money on the streets" oh shit! I think I touched a nerve. With that he came bolting at me, I just ran as fast as me legs could carry me, lucky for me he couldn't keep up with me, I was only little but I was fast.
I ran towards an ally way and hid behind a large bin. That was close.
I was no stranger to the streets of new York I knew where I could sleep for the night and where I could get food. I also knew what places to avoid, you don't wonder into a gangs territory and come out unharmed.
I sat on a bench near the park where my parents use to bring me when I was a kid. I use to love playing here back then, now it was dull and depressing, full of graffiti and Broken bottles.
"Got a light?" A voice broke my train of thought, as I turned in its direction all I could see was sparks of a lighter in the attempt to light a cigarette. "Yes you.. do you have a lighter I can borrow?" This time I had to answer.
"No I'm sorry I don't smoke" I said watching every move of the stranger in front of me. It was dark so I couldn't see the face but she was tall. As my eyes adjusted I could see her smiling at me I snaped out of my transe.
"See something you like girl?" She said cooking her head to the side still holding the un light cigarette. "No I'm sorry I don't want any trouble" I'd had enough of that to last me a life time. "Don't worry girl" she came down and sat next to me on the bench "smoking can be a turn off anyway" I had never had any interest in smoking, I knew how much they hurt when one was being put out on you. That must have been why it didn't interest me, so many bad memories.
"What's your name sweatness" she said with her arm slung over the back of where I was sitting. "Lilly. My names lilly" I said looking at the ground, what the hell does this girl want. I haven't got what she originally wanted so what's her deal.
"So where are you from kid?" Why is she so interested in me.. I'm just going to tell her straight, here goes nothing."Look I don't know what you want from me but I have nothing, I'm literally down to my last dollar" I said looking down at the floor. She stood to her feet and looked down at me. "That's all I needed to hear honey" I looked up at her from where I was sat and noticed she was smiling again. Oh my God she is going to kill me. She knows iv got no one now, she is going to be one of them killers that are in the news paper that kill you and chop you up in tiny peices to cover it up.
But I was wrong she turned on her heel and stated to walk away from me. Confused I just sat there watching her walk away until she turned and shouted "Well come on then you need a place to stay right?"What's was her game? Do I trust this girl? She seems nice enough but iv only just met her.
Without any question I stood up from the bench and started to follow her, she skipped and danced as I walked behind her following her like a lost puppy.
Where is she taking me?
