My head snapped round to meat a little girl. She looked about 6. With long brown hair and a full length dress. She had big brown eyes and a cute face.
"Are you a fairy miss?"
Her voice was bright and hopeful. As if wishing it to be true.
"Why? Who's asking?" I replied turning her body round to face her.
"Well me of coerce silly?" She chirped. Bouncing up to me and sitting down mimicking my crossed legged position.
"And what if I was this fey of witch you speak of?" I countered mimicking the way those men where speaking earlier.
"Well if you are a fairy, which you are, you're would be a water nymph. And mommy told me that if I was a good girl, which I have, and made friends with a water nymph, she will grant me a wish." For the whole monologue she sat there rocking back and forth, it was very cute.
"So would that make us friends than?"
"Of coerce miss" she giggled rocking a little faster.
I coldest help but grin at her she was just so innocent.' ok I'd play fairy with you'
"Ya no what kid, I like you, so tell me what's your wish?"
To my surprise she looked sad. All her energy seamed to leave her and her face dropped.
"What is it?"
" It's for my sissy ebby"
Her voice was quiet and sad. I had to lean in to hear her.
"What about her?"
"She's sick, mommy said that she will be ok, but I hear mommy and daddy talking while they think I'm asleep. That say that it's bad, that even healer Alfred can't make her better."
At this she looked up at me eyes big and watery. "My wish would for you to make her better again."
A part of me was surprised that she would tell a complete stranger something like that. But the bigger part of my brain, the medic side of my brain was telling me that I could actually help her. Helping people that will be a good start. Getting to know a person that's what normal people do. Not mercenaries trained at the age of 6
"Well miss will you heal her?"
It seemed I had phased out for an I scrambled for a response. before it clicked.
"I don't no. if healer Alfred can't do it I'm not shore what I can do." At this she started tearing up, but I kept talking. I couldn't stand crying children.
"But kid, if you really think that I can help your sister, I will do all in my power to help her. I'm not making any promises but I'll help if I can."
At this the girls face lit up. She looked so happy. "Thank you thank you thank you" she squealed hugging my waist. Only to pull away when I cried out in pain, and slouched over myself in an attempt to lessen the felling.
Only at that moment did the little girl spot the red tinted water and my condition.
"Your hurt"
I swallowed a smart assed retort at her obvious comment, not wanting to scare off.
A shadow fell over me. I looked up to see the kid stood in front of me; hand outstretched as if determined to help.
"Come with me. Mommy will make you better then you can make sissy better."
I marvelled at her childish simplicity.
Was I ever that simple?
No.
