something good did happen that day. alex and luke became best friends and spent much of their time together.
alex transferred to nyu in the fall to pursue dreams of journalism. while luke decided to play football in california.
across the country, they maintained a close friendship and visited every holiday.
people say long distance never works, but they sure made it.
that was the beauty of their friendship; they both have been through hell and back and only they could understand what it's like.
alex graduated a week after luke, so of course he flew to new york to see his best friend of four years graduate college.
they had the best time exploring the city and spending time together. even though they had just spent nearly four days together a week prior, it felt like they hadn't seen each other in months.
they laughed and talked and they felt so alive.
they were now free to be who they wanted; go where they wanted; be with who they wanted.
luke knew who he wanted to be with forever, and to him, it didn't matter if she didn't want to be with him that way. as long as he had his best friend in his life he would be happy.
luke means the world to alex and he smiles at her like she's the sun to his stars.
perhaps the greatest thing that happened that day was when two people knew they were meant to be.
because sometimes life gets a little cancerous, a little dark, and little lost.
but if you have someone to call yours, you may just find your light.
