I blink for a couple of minutes, still processing what he just told me. "So," I finally said after a minute. "Jack?"
"Yes," he replies, not taking his eyes off of the beast. The beast let out a yawn before lowering its head towards its front "paws." So many questions ran through my head at once, yet I was too afraid to ask him so I just remain silent until he finally sighs. "Alright look, from the look on your face, I can tell you have many questions you want to ask me. So take it one at a time. And I will choose whether or not I want to answer them."
"How come you and this beast-"
"Trico," he corrects me coldly. I frown.
"Okay, how come you and Trico are still alive after all of these years?" He remains silent for a second.
"I don't know what you mean," he says abruptly, scratching Trico behind his ears as he falls asleep. I roll my eyes.
"Don't play stupid with me. It's been years, decades, hell even centuries and yet you're still alive."
"Don't go there." He warns me quietly. So quietly that it scared me a little and I didn't push further on the subject.
"Alright, fine. Since you won't explain that to me the least you can do is tell me where we are."
"Nagasaki." He responds without hesitation, leaning his back against the sleeping beast glaring at me.
"Uh.. Naga-who?" I said, dumbfounded. His blue eyes pierce through what felt like my soul.
"Nagasaki," he repeats as if I were stupid. My face flushes as I pretend to know what that meant. I've never heard of a place called Nagasaki. Then again I've never went passed the forest anyways.
"Um... alright..." I said, cursing silently about how naive he was at the fact that I don't even know where we are. "How far away is my home for here?" Jack just laughs.
"I hate to disappoint you but you're never going to go home. Not now, not ever. SO you might as well kiss all the memories about that place goodbye." My heart drops.
"What do you mean? Of course I can still go-"
"You'll just put your entire village in danger if you do. Do you want that happening?" He asks. "Do you want to see everyone you love and care for be destroyed because you made the selfish decision to go back?"
"No," I said upset. I couldn't stand to see my village be destroyed, let alone my mother and Felix be killed. Even though he is an asshole sometimes. Jack smiles a little bit.
"Hey," I look up at him a little. "You're the chosen one just like me. So you can help Trico and I on the way to wherever Trico has been taking me all of this time." Something inside of me all of a sudden.
"So we'll be travelling?" I ask excitedly. He laughs.
"No, we are more like going on an adventure with Trico." Jack smiles, the coldness of his attitude fading away. "We leave tomorrow."
And I couldn't wait.
