Prologue

Just this side of the universe, lies the planet, Mannia. It is much like Earth, orbiting around a white Sun, being orbited by one moon and, is able to sustain life. The inhabitants of Mannia however, are not human. They have, due to the planet’s unique manna core, been able to become more evolved than any human could ever be. They have become faeries, magical, winged creatures blessed with longevity and in possession of elemental powers.

The magic that these faeries have the ability control is derived from the elements, fire, water, earth and air. Some can also control another force, divinity, this is a very rare magic that still hides many secrets. There also exists a lost element, darkness. It is said that the first five Kings and Queens of Mannia were challenged by an evil power wanting to seize control. The King of Darkness, Mortskilis Pravus, had raised an army of evil followers, he sought to overthrow the blessed, seelie court, to which he used to belong, so that he might create a damned, unseelie court, and become the autocratic emperor of Mannia. A war between the two courts raged for three generations before the threat of darkness was extinguished, along with all those who had been born into its inescapable clutches.

The five inhabited continents of Mannia, Lundura, Craedence, Paigeon, Florrum and Torix are each governed by a monarchy, a seelie court, where a king or queen is democratically elected from high princes and princesses of the five royal families, Arcos, De Luca, Mintori, Braise, and Antonov, each bloodline directly descending from the five ancient rulers who conquered darkness.

The current Queen, Queen Anarora Arcos, has aged significantly since her election as leader, and people are starting to doubt her ability to rule. The lack of faith the people are starting to show towards the Queen is beginning to take its toll. The Queen has employed a royal advisor, Rhett Bekslov – a man held in high esteem by the people – to regain their favour.

But Advisor Bekslov is hiding a terrible secret. A secret that could change everything.
