safe space // zen x reader

Booming thunder shook the house and crackling lighting repeatedly illuminated the room. You sat in the stuffy rectangular space, hugging your knees as you shivered and whimpered whenever another loud noise sounded. Needless to say, thunderstorms weren't exactly your cup of tea.

Closing your eyes, you leaned your back against the wall and inhaled deeply, attempting to calm yourself down and failing miserably as a gust of wind blew against the building.

The door opened, and the sudden flash of lightning wasn't needed to figure out who was worriedly staring down at your crying form.

"There you are, babe. I was looking everywhere for you," Zen spoke in a slightly playful tone, trying to get a least a tiny smile from you. You only shrugged, earning a small sigh in response.

"Come here, my love."

Zen knelt in front of you and you immediately hugged him close when a loud cackle emitted from outside. He nestled his face into your neck, planting small kisses there and whispering sweet nothings into your ear as he combed his fingers through your disheveled hair.

"I'm sorry.." you managed to say between breaths. "You shouldn't have to do this every time there's a storm..I'm not a baby and I should act li-

Your words were cut off by Zen's lips softly pressing against yours.

"It's okay, I'll do this as many times as you need to. Nothing is more important to me than your comfort."

He rubbed his thumb against your tear-stained cheek and stared at you lovingly.

"Never apologize for being uncomfortable, babe. No matter what it is, I'm here. I'll always be here, alright?"

You nodded slowly, gradually calming down as Zen kissed your forehead. You felt his hand gently moving up and down your back in efforts to regulate your fast paced breathing.

"I'm never leaving you alone, not if I can help it. Whenever something is bothering you, no matter how big or small, I'll be your safe space."

Another light kiss was planted on your cheek.

"I love you, _____."

"I love you, too."
