"Karmin! Wake up! It's almost time for your sign language class!" Yelled Mrs. Vazquez from the entry of Karmin, Karla, Laura, and Flora's bedroom. "Apurate! Your breakfast is ready."
"Ya voy!" Karmin yelled back to her mother.
Karmin took her green and black checker blankets off her head and lazily blinked her eyes a few times. "Okay..." Karmin sighed, and jumped off of her top-bunk bed. She started whistling and walked over to the closet she shared with her sisters. She picked out her clothes for the day and, partially satisfied with her striped hoodie, black jeans, and galaxy snapback, left her room. Karmin headed for the kitchen where she could smell pancakes.
She was only two rooms away from the kitchen when she caught a quick glance of her brother, Cristopher, out of the corner of her eye. She probably stared at his sleeping body for a minute before her mom called her again. That's also when she realized she was standing right next to his bed.
"Going mom!" Karmin yelled back. Only after she yelled it out did she flinch looking down at Christopher, expecting him to be awake. He's deaf, Karm. Deaf.
"I know..." She whispered , making one quick glance to her older, sleeping brother before exiting his room, biting back tears.
"Mother?!" yelled a little girl with a perfect, ginger ponytail. "Where is Meredith's cooking supplies?"
"You don't have to get my things, McKenna. You need to go back to bed." Said McKenna's older sister, Meredith. She was getting ready for her first day of cooking class at a downtown building. "I am more than capable of getting my own things. But thank you." She said to her little sister, smiling. "Come on, McKenna. I'll take you up to bed." She picked her little sister up and carried her to her pink and blue room.
"Why can't I go with you again?" Asked the little sister as she was being tucked in.
"Because you are only six, and I'll be gone almost all day." Replied the older one. "Plus, you have dance class today and it's across town from where I'm going."
"Oh, right."
Meredith smiled. She kissed McKenna's forehead before exiting the room. She ran down stairs and gathered her supplies before stuffing them into a bag and walking into the livingroom. She quickly located her light blue converse and slipped them on. She gave her glasses a quick clean.
Looking at herself one last time before leaving, she complimented herself for picking the pastel pink blouse, yellow leggings, and black silk bow tie. She opened the door to her house and walked out into the summer breeze.
