True Love Never Dies

"Jayson! Jayson! Where are you?" I was running. Something was chasing me, but I didn't know what. Then, suddenly I couldn't run anymore. I stopped. The monster was close I could feel it. I was standing in the middle of a playground. A basketball court to the right of me, a merry-go-round to the left, swings in front of me, and a monster behind me.

"Emily," the monster whispered. It was standing directly behind me now. I could feel it breathing down my neck. Again it said, "Emily. Emily....tag, you're it!" I turned around and started chasing Jayson. I caught up to him and made him stop running from me.

"I thought we were playing monster vs. helpless human not tag," I managed to get out between breaths.

"I wanted to play tag," Jayson answered between laughs. I had a feeling he was laughing at me.

"What are you laughing at?" I questioned.

He looked up at me and quit laughing. He stood up straight and stared into my eyes.

"What? What's wrong?" I started to get scared.

"I'm sorry," he answered.

"For what?"

"I'm sorry I had to go. I'm sorry I left you all alone. The beatings were getting to be too much though. That is why I was missing more and more school. I am so sorry, but please don't be upset. We'll see each other again. I promise."

I dropped to my knees. Tears began to fall. I couldn't control them. They were falling faster and faster. I finally sputtered out, "You're right here. You're not gone."

"Yes I am. This is all just a dream. This is all just a dream...." His voice was fading out which forced me to look up. He wasn't there. He had disappeared, and I didn't know where to.

"Jayson! No! Come back, please stay with me! Please, Jayson!" I screamed, but it did not help. He was gone...again.

"Emily! Emily! Wake up!" I could hear my Mom screaming at me.

I woke up in a puddle of water. I sat up and wiped my eyes. I was crying. My mom grabbed me and gave me a hug.

"I'm sorry, honey! It will be okay. Eventually these dreams will go away for good."

I pushed her away and rolled over on my side. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. She took the hint and left my room. As soon as I heard the door shut I jumped out of bed. I put my shoes on, grabbed my backpack, and climbed out my window. I t was almost 3 in the morning, but I had to see Jayson. I had to let him know my plan.

I got to the cemetery and went straight to his grave. I sat down on the ground in front of the headstone. I traced the engraving of his name with my finger. The headstone read:

"Here lies Jayson Michael Wilcox

Son of Max and Marie Wilcox

Loving Friend of Emily Marett

May 12, 1991-March 29, 2006"

Seeing this made him being gone feel even more real. Tears began to fill my eyes, but I did not let them fall. I held them back and I fought through the pain, for I knew it would all be over soon.

"Hi Jayson. I'm back....again!" I began to talk to him. "I miss you. Things with Taylor didn't go well. He kissed me on the cheek and I thought of you."

I put my head down and set my mind back to that day. We were at the park. It was a Sunday morning so most people were at church. We were sitting on opposite sides of the merry-go-round. We were 15 so we were kind of big for the smaller spaces, but we didn't mind because we just cared about the fact that we were talking. We hadn't talked for like 3 days, so we had a lot to talk about. I remember Jayson had been having more problems at home, but he told me that things were getting better. We also talked about a bunch of girls who had asked Jay out, but how he had said no. He told me he said no because he only room for one girl in his life, and that was me, his best friend! I t got dark quick, and before we knew it, it was time to go home. We both stood up and walked to the edge of the park. We turned and looked at each other.
