Dear dad,
It's your daughter, we had a bomb scare yesterday and we were commanded to write a letter to our families in case it was our last. Afghanistan is now filled with bodies, every where you look. I remember the look of complete rage when I told you that I was going to join the army, I still remember mum's eyes filling with sadness. I remember telling my friends I might never see them again, I remember the 6am wake ups and the 12:30 lights out, I remember all the intense training, I remember watching my friends get shot. I remember it all like it was yesterday. I'm sorry I haven't wrote more often but I have a surprise for you. Open the front door.
Love Jamie

The front door flies open revealing a shaking, crying father. The same father that ran at me and hugged me like if he let go he would lose me again, I can feel his hot tears streaming down my Australian army shirt, I drawn faint circles on his back and simply whisper "I'm home."

This is Wolfie speaking, I just read this and I'm crying because my mum and dad are in the Air Force but when I was two years old my mum had to go overseas to Afghanistan where she witnessed death and violence.
She could have died...but she's still with me
