The Wedding
"My Cassie, you just look stunning!" said my mother looking directly at me through the mirror. "I couldn't be more proud of you in all my life then what I am right now."
"Mom, it's ok. Don't cry!" I say as I notice tears welling up in my mother's eyes. "I know I'm getting married but it's ok."
I stare intently into the mirror, looking at my dress up and down. My dress was hand-made by my mother. The beautiful fray around the chest, and flower like patterns that travel down and flow seamlessly throughout my dress, they just capture your eye. My dress was long, covering my legs, and dragged far behind me by at least a few feet. My dress had tiny beads all throughout, and fit perfectly to the theme. It kind of gave my dress a winter look, which is after all my favorite season. I then look down at my bouquet of flowers, all white lilies mixed with a few red roses, to symbolize the large similarities yet slim differences between my soon-to-be husband and me.
My mom and I are both crammed in a small room, big enough to hold 4 or 5 people, but that's about it. The room only has one window, and it's very small so there isn't much natural light inside. The room contains a coach big enough to fit 3, and a small closet on the opposite side, with a mirror in for middle side. This may not be the best room to get dressed in for a wedding, but it will do. It is after all just my mom and I so we aren't too crowded.
"Cassie, it's almost time!" cheers my mom while jumping up and down. She takes her hands, and then brushes down the few coffee brown strands of my hair sticking up. I take my left hand to hold my bouquet, and use my right to grab my mother's hand. I turn around, grasping her hand tightly, and look deeply into her eyes.
"Mom, I'm scared."
"Don't worry sweetie, everything is going to be just fine. Just make sure you don't cry or your mascara will run, and we don't want that!" She says with a heartwarming smile on her face
Without my mom, I would be lost in life. My dad died in a fatal accident when I was 14. No one ever found out how he died, and his body was never found either. Now my mom is the only family close to me that I have left. It's been 12 years since my dad died, and it still kills me not knowing how he died, or even where he is.
"You promise everything will be ok mom?" I say, noticing my hands are shaking in hers.
"I promise you that everything will work out perfectly fine. I've done this before remember! Once you get up there, everything disappears, and the only thing you can think about is him."
I begin to hear the organ play the main tune to "Here Comes the Bride" and my heart begins to race a million miles an hour. My mom reaches for my arm, and links hers with mine, preparing us to walk down the alleyway to meet with my husband-to-be.
"Are you ready for this? Let's go, and I'll make sure you don't fall," said my mom with a little giggle once she was done talking. She always seems to bring a smile to my face at times when I need it the most. I guess that's just one of the many important roles that a mom must fill.
"I'm ready." I reply, my voice slightly shaking.
My mom sets the thin veil atop of my head, and we both set our hands to the wide doors. We both look at each other, my mom giving me the happiest look I've seen since father passed away. I'm glad she's finally happy again.
This is my day, and my husband-to-be. No, I think it's about time I call him my husband. We have been engaged for 3 years just to make sure we really wanted to go through with this. Only, now I'm 100 percent sure that I love him. I love him with all my heart. If I were to lose him, I would honestly feel like there would be nothing left for me in this world. He lifts up my spirits, and he's the one who keeps me motivated to keep going every day. I love him.
My mom and I push the doors to our room open and I take my first step towards getting married. I follow the black granite path on the floor up to the altar. I make sure to follow my steps to the beat of the song. I look to my left and right, smiling with the largest smile I think I've ever had in years. I notice my grandma, my only other living relative, smiling back at me and waving her handkerchief at me. She's crying, but they're tears of joy. I wish I could just run up to her and give her a big bear hug, but I have to continue up to the altar.
On my left I see a mixture of my friends, and my husbands. They're all looking at me as I slowly walk up the aisle. I'm usually afraid of being the center of attention, but right now I don't even mind. I notice the little girl walking in front of me spreading the pink rose petals. If I recall, that girl is my best friends' daughter. She looks absolutely adorable in her white flowing dress.
I center my eyes up to the front, and notice the massive organ and stained glass covered the entire back wall of the chapel. Then I slowly lower my eyes to notice my best friends standing to the side, waiting for me to meet them at the top. Then I look over to see my handsome husband standing there, hands clasped together held behind his back. His posture is very elegant, and his figure gives him a manly feel. I see him capture my eyes, and he gains a little smirk on his face, showing a tiny bit of teeth. He's nervous too, I can tell, but his smile makes me smile even wider.
I take a few steps, and then finally reach the top of the altar. My mom lets go of my arm and takes her exit to the left of me, right with all my best friends. I look into my husband's eyes and he smiles, and then I notice he brings his hands up to grab mine, and I do the same. We lock hands and we listen to the priest say his usual preach.
Time goes by, we say our vows, and then we finally reach the end of the ceremony.
"Dearly beloveds, we are gathered together here to join together this man and this woman in Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, and therefore is not by any to be entered upon, nor taken In hand, unadvisedly, lightly, or wantonly; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, duly considering the causes for which Matrimony was ordained." said the priest in a cheerful yet preaching tone. I blank out until the priest finally says, "Wilt thou have this woman to be thy wedded wife? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honor, and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto her, so long as you both shall live?"
I look into his eyes and he responds. "I do."
"Wilt thou have this man to be thy wedded husband? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor, and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto him, so long as you both shall live?" said the priest, directed towards me.
I take a few seconds but then finally respond with, "I..."
Next thing I know, I hear a big bang, and hear myself gasp for air. I look down and put my hand to my chest. I lift my hand and notice something I would have never imagined. Blood had stained my dress and hands. I then fall to the ground, back first, and my vision and hearing gets blurred. I can hear people screaming and yelling. I see my husband on top of me, looking left and right really quickly yelling something. He looks back down at me and started crying. I can't hear what he was saying, but from the way he kept moving his lips, I kept seeing, "I'm sorry" over and over again.
This is it, I think to myself. I'm going to die right here, on my own wedding day. I feel a tear slowly lower from my eye and down my check. I raise my arm, reaching out to my husband. I barely have any strength left but I try as hard as I could. My arm reaches up towards him, and my hand touches his cheek. I feel the tears run down my arm. I open my mouth to him and say, "I love you" one last time. I then see my vision go from a blur to pitch black, and feel as my arm falls to the floor.
