"I never thought that this day would come, not even for one second have I thought about us parting ways."
-Namjoon POV-
Now if I remember correctly this is how everything went down. It was just any ordinary day, my friends and I were just playing around as usual until war broke out on our district of the country. Our world, the one we've always lived in, breaks into war quite often. However due to the fact that we live in the safest district none of us had any experience with things like war, besides the youngest member of our team. Nobody knew anything, all we knew was that we were going to be put into war, and that our unit specifically would be known as 방탄소년단.
My friends and I were just enjoying a day at the nearby shopping center and before we could do anything we noticed that there was a decent handful of guards patrolling the area. In between a conversation with one of my team members one of the higher up officials called me over for a private conversation.
"Kim Namjoon?" He said.
"Y-yes sir." I replied.
As the conversation continued I hear my friends laughing behind me. Every now and then I would look out of curiosity to see my friends goofing off and naturally I wanted to join in. I rarely paid any attention to what the officer was saying until something he said tugged on my chords...
"You know you'll need to part ways with them, right?"
"S-sir? Pardon me?" I hesitantly replied.
"In order to become a scientist for the government you'll need to work at the lab, and you won't get any time to goof around with those soldiers-to-be." He noted.
I rubbed the back of my head, pondering my mind on how to answer his statement.
"Of course sir."
"Don't get to attached, they might as well get killed in the war, so if you get your hopes too high for their return it won't be good for you."
"You're smart, we need to keep people like you around." He continues as he walked away leaving me in shock and disfigurement. Not knowing what other surprises might come in the future, whether if it's for the better or worse. I continue to stand there for a second until my thoughts were interrupted by my best friend and my first love.
"Hey! What's up? You seem a bit off, was it something the officer said?" He said jokingly.
"A-ah no it wasn't anything, I just had something to think about, thanks for worrying though." I replied hesitantly not knowing whether it would be a good idea to tell him or not.
"Haha! If it wasn't for me, the one and only Kim Seokjin, you would be lost!" Seokjin said as he pulls me closer to him. My heart instantly skips a beat and my complexion is all flustered complete with a bright red face.
"What was that for?"
"Hmm? Are best friends not allowed to joke around?" He replies as he continues to tease me.
"N-not at all, it's just...." I attempt to wipe the red off my face.
"Whats with the red face? Flustered are we now? I know, I know, nobody can resist yours truly~" Seokjin continues.
"Oh shut up, I'm just cold..."
"Mhm, why can't you just enjoy this wonderful spring day, we need to make it last while we can. At least before we enlist in the military." He replies as he stares out at the newly arrived cherry blossom trees.
"Uh huh... Spring Day he says." I nod as a smile finds its way across my face."It's kinda nice looking out at the cherry blossom trees with my first love isn't it, but why does it have to be the last happy memory I hold before the incident?"
-A month later-
I smile as we enter the car. Today was the day the drafted soldiers would be officially entered into the military. As my superiors talked amongst themselves, I sat quietly and thought of seeing my old friends. It had been exactly one month since I was taken early to become a government scientist. As the drive continued I looked out of the window and noticed that the birds were thriving once again. It had been a while since I've been outside, since working in the stuffy laboratory is quite exhausting and tedious.
As the car pulls up near the building I stare up to the sky and my mouth drops in awe of how amazing this place was. Then I thought 'do I really get to work here? Will my friends even remember me?' So many of these question came across my mind as we enter the building.
The fact that I'm working for the government in training to become a high class scientist, me and my superiors sat in the front row. My heart begins to pound even faster and I get a little uneasy."So I'm really going to see them again, this last month has been the hardest for me, not physically but emotionally..." I whisper under my breath.
Surprisingly one of my superiors noticed my mumbling and stopped to ask.
"What's the matter? Are you nervous?"
"Oh no, it's just there's a couple of people I've been looking forward to see." I reply with a nice big smile.
For some reason he laughs under his breath before stating something else.
"Don't get too excited.... you won't be with them for too long..."
"W-what do you mean? Are they not going to be assigned to our unit?" I question.
"Oh they'll be in our unit, but the only thing keeping you from catching up with them is if they get killed first." He says as the smirk that sat upon his face turned into a demonic laugh.I sit there spacing out thinking 'what if they do get killed first? What if I don't even get to see them again after this?' On the verge of tears I quietly curse at him under my breath before I wipe up my tears and sit up straight for the ceremony to commence.
As soon as the host of the ceremony presented himself on stage everyone in the audience applauded.
"Now for the naming and dubbing of the new generation of soldiers." He announces as he bows and walks off the stage.
"We will start with the new recruits, these newly shaped individuals have been trained by our top notch training facilities." The announcer then pulled out a list and began listing on countless names. I only looked out for a certain six.As the names continued to be droned on, I looked at the crowd of soldiers that were waiting to be called. Then I spotted him. Jeon Jungkook. He was standing in such a position only a professional officer would stand, it seemed a bit off for me since he had always been laid back but I didn't question it. It was what they were taught during the training period but I suppose he's the only one who remembered.
The others looked so nervous, like something from within them was about to burst. But why was Jungkook so calm? I simply brush it off. But what really shocks me is how he looks now. So.. Grown up. 'Have I been gone that long?'
Jungkook has changed so much. His brown hair looks thicker, his facial features have matured. Not to mention he looks taller than the last time I saw him. He used to be so small but now. It almost surprises me how much he's changed, but never the less he was the top of our class so it was expected that he'd make more progression than any of us.To be continued
