toxic
Hands and hearts tangled like vines,
But a love like this was crossing the lines.
Lips, so soft and bitter sweet,
Instantly had her swept off her feet. With poisonous kisses, he trailed her neck,
Leaving her a complete and utter wreck.
Nights spent in motel rooms with cheap wine,
They'd explore at first, a passion so delicate and fine.Bound by the concept of this consuming feeling
Convincing themselves it was healing,
That their rendezvous gave their lives meaning,
Blinded to what they were actually dealing.Engulfed by this lustrous obsession,
She became but a mere possession,
A thing on which he let out all his aggression,
Telling herself it was 'self-expression'.She'd realised she'd lost grip of her self worth,
As he came down on her like rain to the earth.
Under his stare she felt worn and exposed,
Unable to keep herself composed. He was just an idea in her head,
And suddenly all he brought her was dread.
Realising she'd been misdiagnosed,
He no longer could keep her under control. She was finally out of her gilded cage,
She no longer sought from him assuage,
It's never easy, out growing a toxic love,
But when you do, you rise above.// R.M.
