The New Girl [Joel Sauceda]

Prologue

"Jennifer!" Jennifer's mom called her name.

"What?" Jennifer called out from her bedroom where she was doing her homework. She felt frusterated when she didn't hear her mom's voice again. Jennifer threw her book down on her bed and stormed to the living room to discover her best friend Sarah and her parents.

"Jennifer!" Sarah came running into her arms.

"W-what's going on?" Sarah pulled away with sad eyes from being rejected from her hug.

"Well 'Hey!' to you to..." Sarah mumbled so Jennifer can only hear.

"I didn't mean it like that,sorry Sarah Bear." Jennifer cheered up her best friend since as long as she can remember by poking her and using her nickname.

"Jennifer..." Jennifer's mom gained Jennifer's full attention with in a split second. "You're moving to Texas an-"

"Wait! Texas? No! I finally fit in at this town that I've always lived at! I don't want us to move! And what to you mean you're'? Don't you mean us?" Jennifer interupted her mom.

"It's not just you moving..."

"Then who else is moving with me? You? Don't you have work?"

"Your dad is moving with you,an-"

"Dad? Wait... Why not you?"

"I can't..." This boiled Jennifer's blood. 

Why would she tell me I'm moving to Texas? Why am I only moving to Texas with dad? Are they.... No. They can't split up. Why did she have Sarah and her parents here? ...I would understand just Sarah because she would help cheer me up... But why her parents?

Jennifer didn't take long to grab Sarah's wrist and drag her best friend outside. She didn't understand... She only knew that she needed a talk with her best friend. Sarah always knew how to make Jennifer happy even if she didn't know what was going on either. Jennifer never understand her ability of making Jennifer laugh and smile during the darkest times of her life.

"Do you think my mom and dad are splitting?" Jennifer finally said after minutes of complete silence.

"They said they were... I'm sorry. The only reason why we were there was because our parents have discussed it-"

"Our parents?" 

"Yeah... They told me the news of us moving together with your dad. Your dad is only going to be there for a couple months. They found a really good school and they want us to go there and my aunt is coming to move in with us when your dad comes back."

"But my mom and dad are splitting?"

"Yeah, your dad wants to come with us and look at houses while he's there. He might be gone for a couples days here and there to check the houses out himself. Now are you happy and want to accept it?" Sarah was smiling and Jennifer mirrored it. 

I was expecting them to split some day... I'm sad about it but after the countless fights I knew it was coming. I'm just happy they are giving me a chance to live with my best friend.

"Yes!" Jennifer engulfed Sarah into a hug...
