Prologue
Alexis’ life was turned upside down. Before, she was an ordinary and normal person. But then something happened that changed her life forever. At the age of 10, Alexis’ brother Johnny was diagnosed with eye cancer. It was really bad. Their family tried to hold on to hope but soon it was clear that the future wasn’t so bright for little Johnny. He passed away the day after his 11th birthday. Alexis was left with her parents and her other younger brother Jamie.
Johnny’s death shattered the peace in their home. Alexis’ parents, Michael and Katherine were always arguing and debating over little things such as: who was going to buy dinner or who was going to drive the children to school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. They fussed over things that seem very ridiculous to make a big deal out of. Their battles would even impact their family so much that Michael would leave the home for days, sometimes weeks without a phone call to tell them where he was or when he would return home. Katherine always put up with it because she felt as though that was his way of getting the time away from everything and clearing his mind. Their family waited and waited for him to return to his normal self but eventually her mother made it clear that enough was enough.
Katherine is sending Alexis and Jamie away to their grandmother’s mansion in Santa Monica, California for as long as it would take to fix her problems at home. She thinks that by doing this that her children will be better off away from their parents’ drama and can pick up their grades in school since they have been slacking lately. She also hopes that her children can live an extravagant life, one they can be proud of.
Alexis has become a girl who is self-dependent. She doesn’t rely on others to do favors for her because she doesn’t want empty promises to be made. She does have a love for her family that is unbreakable and nothing will ever change that. All Alexis wants is for her family to go back to normal loving way they used to be, but she knows that is least likely to happen.
One thing she never wants to do is fall in love. That is her biggest fear. She is afraid of giving her heart to someone and them ripping it in half. She protects herself by building up walls that no one seems to be able to break down. That is until she meets someone who either is just really good with words & flirting or that person truly starts to fall in love with her.
Alexis’ life will change drastically when she meets a very attractive guy at her new school with a very big past that seems to creep its way back into his life more and more.
Can Alexis handle the drama that comes with being involved with this new guy or is does she already have enough going on in her life? How will this guy impact her life? Will Alexis’ family ever come back together so she can have the happily ever after she has longed for?
