Ludwig woke up the next morning four minutes before his alarm. He turned it off, stretched and got up, it was his daily task to wake Gilbert up every weekday, otherwise he knew the albino would've been lazy enough to skip his morning lessons or even the whole day as it had happened more than once in the past. His brother's laziness irritated Ludwig to no end but he knew it was no use to complain about it.
"Complaining won't get you anywhere." his grandfather had said to him many times. Through the years he had learnt not to question the old man's teachings for his Großvater's wise words had gotten him out of all sort of situations countless times.
He walked over to Gilbert's room and slowly opened the door. He looked around, the white walls were covered in posters of bands and pictures of Gilbert and Ludwig, as well as the eldest brother and his friends from Germany, and obviously, countless selfies showing Gilbert in all sorts of places from the Reichstag Building in Berlin to ridiculous places like their neighbour's front yard.
"Good morning Luddykins."
He turned around and saw Gilbert sitting on his already made bed, looking out of the window.
"You're awake." Lud noted, and he must've looked shocked because Gilbert smirked up at him.
"Surprised to see me up this early?"
"Well, yes. Why, are you in a hurry to get to class?"
"Nah, not really. Just woke up from..." He paused as if trying to remember "A really weird dream. I think."
Ludwig frowned but nodded. "Well, now that you are awake, you can help me while I get ready. I need you to talk to Feliciano to confirm his tutoring session today at five." He handed Gilbert a note with the phone number carefully written in neat handwriting.
"Feliciano?" The albino frowned.
"Yes. Feliciano Vargas. The Italian student I am tutoring in quantum physics? He's been coming here every other Monday?"
Gilbert frowned as he thought, then smiled "Ah, yes. Will do." He then made a big fuss of typing down the number onto his mobiles phone's shattered screen.
Ludwig was ready in no time and made breakfast for the both of them. They ate quickly and went out of their small flat. Gilbert skipped down the two flights of stairs like a little kid until they reached the garage door. Ludwig locked it behind them and Gilbert rushed past him and to their car.
"I'm driving!" He announced.
"No you're not." Lud stopped him and pointed at a scratch on the side mirror. Gilbert grumbled and reluctantly sat down on the passenger seat. His good humour returned however, almost instantly and he talked non stop until they had already parked, got out of the car and reached the campus. He was looking around excitedly, looking for his friends Ludwig supposed, though the latter had never met any of Gilbert's buddies he knew they were all very close and perhaps even equally mischievous.
"Hey! Heyoo!" Gilbert whistled at a blonde girl a few metres in front of them. She had her back turned to them.
"Shh! Gilbert. Don't be so rude."
Feeling the need to apologise Ludwig walked towards her and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Please excuse my rude brother, miss. I'm sure he didn't mean it..."
The girl turned around and took one of her earphones out. "Huh? Sorry, I couldn't hear you."
Ludwig almost had a heart attack when he heard the voice, it was a soft but low one with a strong accent, and when instead of the pretty girl he was expecting, a man with soft blue eyes and a stubble turned to face him with an awkward smile. The German went pale and began to apologise frantically. But this man had turned to Gilbert and grinned, ignoring Ludwig completely. "Gilbert! Mon Ami!"
"Francis!" The blond man and Gilbert shook hands and walked away together. Leaving a pale-faced, embarrassed, and stuttering Ludwig behind as they headed to their first class.
