A short quick story. Pic above is example of what the forest looks like. Tell me what y'all think of the story. Thanks

He dusted the strange item off that'd he'd unearthed from his recent excavation in his back yard. What was this blue cube? Where did it come from? He cradled it in his hands as He walked into his house. Ever so gently he set it on the desk and turned on the lamp.

The blue cube started to hum. He turned the lamp off and it stopped. He turned it back on and heard it humming again. He sat down and started turning the cube over, examining every inch of it. As his breath brushed over it the cube began glowing. The glow was a soft gentle glow at first. Then it became more and more vibrant till it was a brilliant but erie glow that outshown the lamp itself. It began humming even louder till he was sure the neighbors would surely complain!

He frantically threw the cube in his desk drawer and slammed it closed. He waited on edge for the neighbors to gripe to him about the racket. But as He watched the clock tick slowly by no-one came to his door. He took the cube back out and started walking around turning it over as he listened to it and watched the glow begin to throb.

The hum was replaced with a beep that kept in time with the throbbing light. The glow became brighter and brighter till it envolped him. He closed his eyes against the onslaught and tried to drop the cube realizing it was becoming searingly hot. He tried to drop it to no avail. The beeping became faster and faster till it was a continues shrill whine. He wished he could close his ears as easily as his eyes. The heat, sound and light the cube was giving off was unbearable. He was sure he would pass out from it all. Suddenly it all stopped. He opened his eyes to a startling sight.

His aching eyes beheld a world of vivid colors unlike anything he had ever seen on earth. Glossy ink black trees with crimson leaves surrounded a brilliant purple lagoon. A strip of gold and silver sand completed the magnificent view. A creature appeared unlike anything he had ever seen outside of movies. It was a winged unicorn. Fierce and proud looking it approached the water, bending down for a drink when it spied him. It stopped and stared at him for a few moments.

"Where did you find The Life Bringer two legged one?" he heard a voice call out. He startled and looked around. Again he heard the voice speak the same words, this time realizing it was the creature in front of him. He gaped, astonished that an animal was able to speak as a human. The creature approached and then turned to look into the forest. A new being appeared.

It was a human but yet wasn't. It was beyond earthreal to look at. It had animal feet, wings and a tail that constantly moved, slipping in and out of sight. It held a hand out "Give back The Life Bringer strange one and you will be allowed to continue on your way unharmed" it commanded.

He hesitated, why should he have to give up his find to beings that didn't exist? He turned to run and was cutoff by a wing of the first creature. "Hand over The Life Bringer. It's not yours. It was stolen from us and taken away long ago. Now it has used you to come home. Return it immediately" demanded the being now towering over him. He shifted nervously.

Suddenly he felt a sharp prick in his side. He looked down and saw the horn of the first creature piercing his ribs slightly. He felt drowsy and grasped at a tree next to him. Catching some tree pieces and sand he dropped the now cool, quite and dull cube. It began to appear fuzzy as he slumped to the ground. Everything faded to black and his last thought was that he lost his magnificent find to his own hallucinations. He awoke with a start. He was in his home again, back at his desk. He shook his head to clear it. Had he just imagined it all? The mysterious cube, the strange creatures who said they needed it and the lush world? As he went to brush his hair away he noticed his hands were filled with something. As he opened them glossy black bark smooth as ink and crimson red leaves vibrant as blood fell to his desktop. It was followed by gold and silver sand. He grinned darkly. He would make it back to that world he vowed to himself. He would gather evidence of that world and prove he was a great man. He swept the bark and leaves into an empty drawer and dusted the sand into a jar and placed it with the rest. He then locked the drawer. There, safe from the world, he thought to himself grimly.
