"Why are you sorry?"
•••
America.
I managed to get through the day and finally got to my sixth hour. Then for some reason I didn't mind going there. I mean I still hate majority of the people in there but one is making it a little bearable.
I walked through the door and seen him sitting in the seat beside mine. A ghost smile took form over my lips. Ugh no I had to shake the feeling, he was one of them. The popular ones that everybody likes.
I walked over and sat down in my seat. I had seen him look over at me from the corner of my eye. I didn't meet his eyes though, instead I ignored him and went onto grabbing my stuff out of my bag.
"Hey America." I finally heard him speak up.
That's when I turned to look at him, "Hi."
"How was your day?" He asked me with that smile.
Damn him and that smile. This boy has many amazing features but if there was one I'd have to choose to love. It's his smile.
"It's been okay, nothing really to complain about. What about you?" I asked being friendly. Something that doesn't really happen often.
He leaned back, "It was good."
"Of course it was you were with me." I heard a familiar nasally voice say.
My smile disappeared along with me chill mood. I turned back around and hoped she'd leave me alone. I wasn't in the mood anymore to be dealing with her.
"No I was actually hanging out with my friends, you just like to butt in where you're not wanted." I heard Shawn tell her.
Oh yikes, I've never seen or heard him talk to her or anyone like that. I'm starting to think he's not your typical golden boy.
"Oh Shawn you know you enjoyed it, just like when we were together." Sara said.
The way she said it though was as if she was trying to make me jealous. As if it was going to bother me to know they used to be together. News flash Sara I don't like him like that and probably never will.
I look over at them, "You know you could get a room right? Don't need everyone to live out your old escapades with you."
Shawn looked a little taken back because I was referring to them both. I didn't mean to make him apart of what she was saying. But I wasn't going to develop any feelings towards him and I knew this would help.
"Or you could move seats and back off my boyfriend then you wouldn't need to hear them." Sara shot back.
I laughed, "I don't want your boyfriend so no need to worry Sara. And about the seating I would move but considering they're now our assigned seats I don't think I will." I told her.
"Actually ex boyfriend." Shawn mumbled.
"Ms. Grace do you care to sit in your assigned seat so maybe we could all continue with what we need to do today?" The teacher asked her.
He called her out in front of the entire class. Some people snickered and others had their fair share of 'Ooos'. Sara then rolled her eyes before turning around and walking back to her seat.
The teacher then started the lesson and I took the notes I needed. Shawn didn't bother talking to me for the rest of the time. Or so I thought because of the whole me including him and Sara. This is why I don't get close to anyone or think I can be friends with them.
But sure enough my thoughts were wrong. Once the lesson was over and we were given a worksheet to do he was talking again.
"Sorry about Sara, she can be a real bitch sometimes." Shawn apologized.
I looked over at him, "If you two aren't together then why are you still apologizing for her?" I questioned.
He shrugged his shoulder, "Its a habit I guess."
I laughed, "You're too nice for your own good Mendes. A nice trait but it could get you hurt as well." I tell him.
He studies he for a minute, "Is that why you are so guarded?"
"Yeah, but that's a story for another time." I say before packing up my stuff.
The bell then rang and I grabbed my stuff and started walking out. I slipped on my shades and put in my earbuds. I then felt him come up next to me.
"Hey so what are you doing today?" Shawn asked me.
We walked down the halls together still getting those weird stares. I tried to ignore them like before.
"Why Mendes? Is this your way of asking me out?" I joked.
He had his ray bands on so I couldn't read his thoughts. But he was smiling.
"No I was wondering so I could take you somewhere." He told me.
I raised my eyebrow, "So like a date?" I asked.
"No not a date, jeez can't a guy and a girl just hangout?" He asked with a chuckle.
I shrugged as we walked out of the school and into the student parking lot. A few cars already left but some were still here.
"It's an ancient situation around here at this school. But to answer your question I'm not doing anything." I tell him as I leaned against his jeep.
He smiled at my answer, "Good because we are going to have some fun."
I then started laughing which caused him to have a confused look. And it's as if he put two and two together to figure out why I was laughing.
"Jeez America get your mind out of the gutter that's not what I meant." He complained.
"I'm sorry...okay I'm done laughing." I say as I catch my breath.
Even with his shades on I knew he rolled his eyes. He then unlocked the Jeep and opened the door for me. I got in the passengers seat before he closed the door.
He then walked around and got in, he started up the car and drove in the direction of my house. Luckily my dad said he was going to be late this next week so he wasn't going to be home for a while.
I wonder what Shawn had up his sleeve.
