2A 2B 2C ah! 2D. I put the small amount if luggage I have into the overhead carrier, and sit in my assigned seat. I stare out out the window thinking about all that's happened to me. I was remembering and I hated remembering.

Flashback

"Daddy?" "mommy?" "Sierra?" "Berto?" I yell from my bedroom trying to get someone's attention, to tell me what's wrong, I saw my mother rush towards me with dear written all over her face "come on sweetie we-" I heard loud thundering footsteps coming to the kitchen "we are going to play hide an-and seek, ok? So you go hide an-and I-ill find you o-ok?" My mom was stuttering out as the footsteps became louder. "Come on go hide" my mother said barely above a whisper "SASHA! COME DOWN HERE!" I her my father yell. "Why is da-daddy so upset?" I ask. "Daddy isn't happy princess, he wants to be happy, so he is asking us to give him happiness. But Volo remember never ever give anyone your happiness, it is yours and it is made for you and only you." My mother tells me with watery eyes. "Daddy is so upset because he used all of my happiness, and when you use someone else's happiness your happy for a little bit but then you get angrier because you can't find your own. Now go hide and don't come out until I find you, ok? Promise me Volo." My mother begs. I never noticed how truly beautiful my mom was, she had long caramel brown hair with striking gray eyes. "Pinky promise" I say. We lock our pinkies together and she smiles "but promise me you'll find me ok?" I ask her. "I promise" my mom tells me before I hear "SASHA GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!" And with that my mother gives me one last reassuring smile before leaving me in my closet forever.

I'm shook awake by some 70 year old grandma "honey, are you alright? You are crying dear?" The kind old lady asks me. "Oh yes I'm so sorry... It was just a bad dream... Yeah a really bad dream"

I fall asleep once again on my plane ride with more pleasant dreams, again being woken up by the nice old lady who's name is Audrey. I get my bag from the overhead carrier and patiently get off the plane like everybody else. I'm so incredibly happy to be taking control of my life and having a fresh start, what's in the past is in the past and I have to move on. As I take my first few steps on the grand city of manhattan I can see it is a very cold and busy town much more different then the warm comfort of Brazil. I call a taxi can and with three unsuccessful attempts the fourth one is a charm.

Yes I'm Brazilian, I have tan skin and caramel colored hair just like my mothers. Yes me name is Volo, it is different but it is the Latin word for fly and I am definitely living up to my name. I'm currently 19 years old and I live by myself. My family? Ill save that one for later. I'm in New York because I need a fresh start away from memories and focus on the future. I arrive at the apartment I bought and pay the taxi cab driver. The outside if the place isn't that bad but it isn't the nicest place. I check in at the front office and I'm pretty amazed by the lobby. It is white marble floor with black furniture around, it is very modern and elegant and cheap! I get on the elavator and I'm pretty nervous to start NYU in a couple of weeks. I'm broken out of my thoughts as the elavator doors open as a signal for me to get out. I reach my door and open it up. My bags drop to the floor along with my jaw. One wall is made entirely of brick while the rest is a nice cream color, the kitchen is small with white cabinets and a chalk board fridge. I venture further into the bathroom and am amazed as well there is a small white bathtub with a shower right beside it, it's a nice light yellow color with cabinets underneath the sink. I go into my bedroom and am flabbergasted, the back wall is all brick with two window on the brick wall, the ledges are very thick and have flower baskets on them with no flowers in them yet. There is a small closet opposite of the brick wall and its a nice white color. I go back to the living room and check it out. It has built in book cases with a big bay window in the far wall. The whole place is laminate flooring. It is very empty but I can't wait to custom it to my liking. I'm so happy that I run around the house 5 times and sit in the middle of the living room for an hour just absorbing in the whole apartment.

Flashback

"One day I'm going to have a huge mansion because ill be a famous singer/actress and then ill have 5 dogs and 50 kitties and they'll have a room each and then you'll live there too mommy, with Sierra and Bertie" I tell my beautiful mother. "Awe my little Volo, dream big princess." My mom coos. "SASHA!! I NEED ANOTHER DRINK" my mom sighs "Sierra, Berto go to Volo's room and hide in the closet please" my mother asks. This has become a routine for my sad family, we hide away while my dad hurts mommy. I look up to my once beautiful mother who glowed and eyes were full of life to a stranger who looks like my mother except with a broken face. "I love you mommy" I tell her "and I love you my brave baby"
