"And we welcome you Violet Leaf. May you carry your new name with the pride of a mountain cat." Fish Scar meowed to the black and orange she-cat. She purred happily. Viper Strike smiled happy for her new friend and groupmate.
"You won't regret me being here at all." She vowed a glimmer in her eyes. The mackerel tabby bowed his head.
"Want to go hunting with us Violet Leaf?" Wolf Fur offered.
"Sure!" Violet Leaf purred bouncing on her paws happy to go hunting with them. The three followed Light Mist, Gorse Feather, Dapple Spots, Dove's Pelt, and Running Fern to the lake to go fishing. A silver thing flickered in the water. Running Fern dove head in the water and came back up with a fish in his jaws, his whiskers having water droplets on them.
Dove's Pelt then plunged in on both of her front paws. Gorse Feather pricked her ears as she turned and saw her lift a struggling fish from the water, flopping in her paws. It was a long and thrashing wildly. She bit into it, killing it. Suddenly, with a yelp of surprise, she tumbled into the water. Running Fern gasped and pulled her up by her scruff. "Are you okay?" He asked worriedly. "I'm fine, just slipped I suppose." She purred her fur wet.
"It didn't dawn on me that you wanted to swim." Light Mist meowed good humored tone. "Oh bunch it you. As if you could get one of these." The gray and black eared she-cat meowed shaking her fur of the water. Violet Leaf had caught a small fish earlier after missing two or three.
"You eat all the fish in the world. I'm gonna go back to hunting for frogs with Grass Shadow again. She told me she would be over there." Light Mist mewed.
"Can I go with you?" Viper Strike asked eagerly.
"Hang on, how do we know if the other side isn't dangerous?" Running Fern asked warily. "If it were, something would have happened by now." She replied simply.
The tom seemed unconvinced. "I think I should ask Fish Scar to send a party investigate that stretch of land. We don't know what might be on the other side." He mewed insistently and took his fish and padded back to the camp. Light Mist rolled her eyes. "In case you haven't noticed, we're small. Who would he even send? Bright Wind and Eagle's Speck's kits?" She asked padding after him. Wolf Fur blinked looking confused. He looked to Viper Strike and Violet Leaf who were staring just as awkwardly as he was. "Come on, let's take this back to the camp while we still can before it spoils." He whispered and the trio bounded away hearing the older cats to argue up ahead while also hearing Gorse Feather and Dapple Spots follow after them. There had been a lot more silence in the camp lately. But why? Everything was fine. At least, he hoped. He pushed his thoughts away. It had been a difficult time hunting recently. Thankfully, they had caught some fish, some mice, and Gray Sky had knocked a bird out of a tree just as it took flight, saying it reminded him of the baby hawks he and a friend named Nimble Mist, who he told he wouldn't have known because she died before he and his sister were born, used to catch together.
"It's my turn now!" Curly Branch squealed. "I get to catch the next crow's feather!" She huffed.
Stone Frost gave his gray fur a shake. "I bet I'm great at catching feathers!" He mewled.
"I'm better than both of you!" Declared their brother Hawk's Cry, who was gray with white patches.
"Nuh-uh!" Curly Branch mewed as she leaped up to grab a feather by her teeth. Wolf Fur stared at the kits with a friendly smile on his face. The little kits were oblivious to the danger Wolf Fur thought seemed to be looming.
