Caught

Wednesday 8 a.m.

I wake up to the smell of bacon. As I open my eyes I notice I'm still in the living room. "Goodmorning" Tanner says in his morning voice.

My eyes go wide and I whisper "what are you doing here?"

He shrugs "your mom never woke me up."

My mom looks in the living room, I guess she heard us. "Morning you two I'm making eggs and bacon if you want to join me."

We climb off the couch and sit at the kitchen table. "Why didn't you wake us up?"

She shrugs "You guys looked peaceful." She turns to look at us "don't worry I told Kim where you were."

"How'd dinner go last night?" I shift in my seat.

"It went okay. Her parents told me that this isn't the first time though." She dumps the eggs and bacon on two plates and hands them to us. "I can't believe she did this to Alec."

Tanner takes a bite. "I know this is none of my business, but Alec might not be the dad."

My mom her fork "wait what?"

"The night Alec and Lexi met she went to another guys house." 

"Huh." My mom stands up.

"Where's Alec?" I take another bite.

She grabs her purse off of the counter "he's grounded to his room. I'll be back later. Oh and don't tell your father I let Tanner stay the night." Without another word she leaves. 

I look at Tanner "maybe we should have told her differently."

He nobs his head "I shouldn't have gotten involved."

I shrug "she needed to know." We finish our breakfast in a comfortable silence. "What do you want to do today?" I stand up and toss our plates in the trash.

"We should go to the trampoline park?" 

"Sure I'll come over once I get dressed." 

He kisses me "alright I'll see you in a little bit." 

I wave as he leaves then run downstairs. Before I go to my room, I knock on Alec's door. "Alec?"

"Come in." I open the door to see him laying on the ground. "Mom's going to be mad if she finds you down here." he mumbles into the floor.

"She's not here." I sit next to him "what happened Alec? You used to tell me everything."

He turns his head to look at me "we didn't have sex Avery."

"That's good news Alec! We have to tell mom!" 

I go to pull out my phone but he stops me "the actual dad is a drug dealer. Mom can't know."

"Alec" I say softly. "You can't claim to be the babies biological father. You don't know Lexi enough. Heck like you said you two haven't had sex."

"Please don't tell mom" he pleads.

I stand up and look down at him "either you tell her before we leave for Portland, or I will. I'm disappointed in you." 

He frowns up at me "Avery please don't say that."

I shake my head and leave. I can't believe him! Why would he do something like this for a girl he doesn't know. I head to my room and take a quick shower. When I get out I have a text from Tanner.

Tanner: Where are you? Are you okay?

Me: Yep I just had to shower.

I slide on one of my most comfortable outfits and stick my phone into my back pocket. As I'm heading back upstairs, I make a point to clear my throat in front of Alec's door. I lock the door behind me then jog across the street. As I'm headed to the front door I spot a blonde walking out. "Paris?"
