I woke to a soft whisper saying "good morning Freya."
Her tone of voice was familiar, but it was too dark to see her face. Then the wooden creaky door slipped open, letting in light, only to reveal my sister Melody and my mother hovering over me.
Melody was still in her grey night gown, but her curled red hair was in a bun, showing all the freckles on her face. Mother wore a tight black dress with her hair also in a bun. Her hair was brown, but was viscously turning grey. In her green eyes, I could see fear.
"See you down stairs for breakfast?"she asked. I nodded my head and watched them leave the room.
I sat up, pulling off the covers on my body. My finest dress was set on a old rocking chair by the door. It was a fine white dress with flowers laced at the bottom. I got out of bed and walked over to my cloths. The light above me flickered constantly, making the room dark then light. When I was dressed I curled my hair and wrapped it up into a fancy braid. Then I left the cold, windowless room. When I went into the kitchen, I could see cold portage served on our old wooden table. Melody was changed into jean overalls, with a red and orange shirt. Mother looked like a mess. I could tell she was crying last night because she had huge bags. Strands of her hair fell out of her bun and she wore her grey gown.
"Come sit,"she said with a fake smile.
I walked to the chair and sat down. The chair felt rigged and rough. A chair we carved with a rock.
"This family is cursed," she started to sob. "First we lost your brother to the forest and your father in a search party, but now you... you mustn't leave us Freya please don't leave, don't let them take you," she cried into her arm, that wrested on the table.
I reached over and put my hand on her shaky back
"I'm not leaving," I whispered.
"The guards will soon be here for the selection test." My mother shook her head and sat up as she wiped away the water dripping down her cheek.
I looked away from my wrecked mother and towards my wooden bowl. I grabbed a spoon carved from a stick, and I scooped out a pile of portage. It tasted as dry as the desert and it lacked any taste. It was still cold and it had a sandy texture.
By now I wouldn't care. My tongue's taste bites have been destroyed by many years of doubtful food. Even though we get what we need to survive from the founders, it doesn't satisfy. Our whole house shook as 3 slams knocked on our door. Melodies face trembled and Mother stood up instantly.
"Open up," a man yelled just behind the closed door way.
Melody shrieked behind my ear as we all faced the door. I stood out of my chair and stepped slowly to the door.
"If this door doesn't open in 3 seconds we will force you out," he shouted.
I was so close to the door that my breath hit it. I slowly reached out my hand to the handle. Not only was I reaching to the handle, but also what might be the death of me.
"One." I placed my hand on handle. "Two." I turned the handle. "Three." I turned the handle even farther until I heard that deadly click.
And with no doubt the door slammed open, nocking me down to the floor. Three guards rushed in my home with thick glass shields and large guns stretching down to the floor.
Melody cowered under the table, covering her head with her hands. Her screams turned into sobs. My mother just stood there letting the guards bump her around.
Two of the guards dressed in a black leather grabbed me from the ground and lifted me onto there shoulders like I was a sack of flour.
A man stepped in front of me as I lifted my heavy head up.
"Freya Unborn," he said with no expression. "You and 27 other 18 year olds of the city have been summoned for the purity test."
I shot my head down and spit on his shoes. Then I looked up, being sure not to smile.
He frowned and wiped his fancy black shoes and once more began speaking. "Freya Unborn, only 10 of your age group will make it to training. The remaining ten will enter the forest."
Without any notice they dragged me out of my house. They took me away from my shaken family in need. I could her sobs and shrieks as we stepped out of the door way. My vision was blurry from tears forming in my eyes. I tried to blink them away, but they just came right back.
Outside of my house was a long limo awaiting my arrival. I have never been in a car. Even though I may be traveling to my doom, I couldn't help but feel a little excited. The angry man who announced my sentence held the door open in the back. The guards dropped me off of their shoulders once we were outside and the door was closed. They pushed me, hinting that I needed to walk to the driving machine.
When I got to the grumpy man holding the door I realized how many wrinkles he had. He was quit old and had no hair, but thick brown eyebrows. He was dressed in more of a military uniform then the normal guard outfit.
I sat on the polished seat and he closed the door behind me. It was very dark inside, but purple and blue light lined the roof. The seat felt so comfy. The best I've felt in years. As the car started driving I spotted a bowl of sweet chocolate. It tasted glorious. The best food I have ever tasted in my life.
"Good stuff huh," a boy said behind me. I whipped around only to find 4 people. I was so impressed by the limo that I didn't even notice them.
There was one boy and two girls. The boy had spiked blond hair and he had pale skin. He sat with his arms wresting on the windows and he looked at me with frustration although he had every right to be that way.
There were two girls to his right and one to his left. The girl to left had dark black hair down to her fingers. Her hair was tied up at the top and she had plucky red lips and perfect green eyes.
The two on the other side of him both had blond hair in a pony tail. They both wore a blue summer dress and they both had the same face. I knew they were twins, the Jewell twins. Even though I don't go to school I know some people in my city.
"Nick," the boy said. I looked at him oddly. "My name it's Nick,"
"Ha? Ya, Nick the dick," the girl with black hair snared. The jewel twins laughed at the comment.
"I'm Octavia, the girl who kicks butt,"
She reached out a hand at me and I awkwardly reached mine out too.
"Freya", I said with a giggle.

We talked for hours until we final arrived at the gates. Not ordinary gates, but gold gates. The man in the front called to a guard and the guard called to another guard.
A loud clank surrounded the area as the gates slowly opened. The wheels turned slowly so we could get a good look of what we didn't have and to show us something beautiful before we all die, but it was glorious.
