Chapter 5~
The rest of that day went by as usual, but the next morning I was greeted by an excruciating headache and a large bump on the back of my head. Seeing as I was already running late I quickly got dressed in some skinny jeans and a v-neck and then flew down the stairs. I swallowed down some pain medicine, slipped on my high tops, and grabbed a granola bar before following Jett out the door. The ride to school is silent, but you could cut the tension with a knife. I got out of the truck and made my way through the doors. Scanning around the halls, I make sure Luke isn't anywhere. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in and walked to my locker. I put my lunch in my locker and ran a hand through my hair. I was nervous, but I didn't know why. I was holding my breath when I shouldn't, and I felt jittery and just all around- nervous.
"Hey Ab-" Jess started, leaning against the lockers next to mine, before she could finish I jump and hit my bruised head against my locker.
"Uhh, hey." I mumble, smoothing out my hair.
"Why so jumpy?" She asks, as perky as usual.
"Eh, I don't know really. Probably that test coming up in algebra." I brush off quickly.
"Oh, I know right. I could hardly focus on studying last night." Jess goes on- saying something about Axel probably- but I can't pay attention. Luke, Asher, Matt, Ryder, Jaxon, and another boy, who's also on the football team, enter in through the school doors together. I've seen that other boy sit at their lunch table together. I think his name is Vince? He has chocolate brown hair, tan skin, and brown eyes. He's muscular because he's on the football team and is a junior if what I've heard is right. All the girls in the hall practically faint then and there. It's like everything's in slow motion as soon as their feet cross the threshold of the school. Luke and I make eye contact for probably a second. When he sees me his mouth stretches into a smirk and I have to pull my eyes away before Jess catches me staring.
"Don't you think that's crazy?" Jess finishes off.
"Oh- yeah, totally." I say, shutting my locker.
"Abby were you even-" Before she can finish the bell rings, signaling it's time to go to 1st period.
"Let's go." I smile, and walk towards the algebra room.

I walk into lunch with Jess, "I can't believe the amount of homework Mr. Monroe gave us." I sigh as we sit down.
"Me either, and I probably bombed that algebra test." Jess replies. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Luke and his "posse" sit down at their table. I focus on Jess talking about Axel for about the millionth time, and try not to focus on Luke or his brothers or his friends. I pull out my granola bar and munch on it absentmindedly. Our four other friends join us at our table, Melissa- who has brown hair and blue eyes, Sarah- who has blonde hair and brown eyes, Kaylee- who has black hair and brown eyes, and Ashley- who had light brown hair and blue eyes. Our usual conversations come up about the latest drama or school assignments. My phone vibrates in my pocket; I take it out and look at the screen. It shows a number that's not recognized so I hit ignore. Before I can even take another bite my phone vibrates again with the same number. Again, I hit ignore. Then it starts to vibrate again.
"This number just called me three times in the last minute." I say to Jess and show her the vibrating phone.
"Answer it, maybe it's important?" She suggests shoving sandwich into her mouth like there's no tomorrow. I hit answer and bring the phone up to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hey babe." A deep voice answers. What the hell?
"How did you get my number?" I ask, careful not to say the name of the person on the other line. I don't want Jess' ears hearing that I'm talking to one of the school's most known bad boys- Matt.
