"You're still holding out okay even after being beaten by a badger. I'm shocked." Speckle Leap meowed to Light Mist. The pale gray she-cat winced. "A hurt shoulder won't stop me from hunting." She meowed, but through her pain. "Will you quit squirming around like that?" Pigeon Talon grumbled.
"But it hurts when you try to move it you feather-brain!" The she-cat fired back.
"Unless you want to have three legs and no longer be hunting, be still." The lilac she-cat growled then turned to Gorse Feather. "Now tell me what to do again?" The she-cat stood by her side, her tail tip being the only hing visible in the den. "Yes, now you just have to move it back..." Wolf Fur didn't listen, their words sounding as if they were going further and further into a cave.
"I showed that blunt clawed furball who's the strongest!" Violet Leaf purred dancing beside Viper Strike.
"Fish Scar said he was impressed with both of you by the way you go that badger." Grass Shadow meowed.
"I clawed that thing right down the nose! It was no match for me!" The black and ginger she-cat mewed with glee, sounding pleased with herself.
"You were lucky to not get hurt. I saw a cat get attacked by a badger once. They lost an eye and a few bits of fur to learn to never mess with them again." Speckle Leap told them.
"Really? Now that's a story I'm interested in." Bright Wind rasped as she hunkered herself down to join them. Wolf Fur turned his attention away from them listening to her story and went into his nest to sleep. Viper Strike seemed to spend all of her time with Violet Leaf and Grass Shadow and not him. He sat with his tail over his nose. A set of paws came over to him. "Hello father." It was his father, given by the strong scent that just hit his nostrils.
"Son, I want to have a talk with you and your sister. It's important." He meowed. He got up and saw Viper Strike next to him. The three padded over to a private space outside the camp.
"Why are we out of the camp?" Wolf Fur asked his father.
"Kits, there is something I must share with you. It is good news." He purred. Wolf Fur and Viper Strike exchanged a glance.
"Well remember how I have been leaving camp lately? Well, I believe I found happiness again after the loss of your mother, even if it has been some while. She's a very kind she-cat and she's coming to live with us in the forest with the group." Weasel Spot mewed.
Wolf's Fur's eyes widened while Viper Strike bristled in out rage. "What?" She hissed. "I thought our mom was supposed to be the only cat your held dear! You said she was!" She went on. His eyes shone with pleading. "But I truly think I can have another chance at love and maybe even kits, Misty Tail wouldn't want me sad. I know she wouldn't." He told them. Wolf Fur's heart seemed to twist and a look spread across his face. Their father's eyes begged them to try understand. But Viper Strike snorted. "How could you betray our mom?" She growled bitterly and turned and stomped away.
"Wolf Fur. You understand don't you?" Weasel Spot asked, looking to his son. The tom's mouth felt dry. His throat felt as if it were heavy with stones.
"Maybe you two are just still overwhelmed... you just need time to think it over." He mewed. Wolf Fur saw the hurt in his sister's eyes. How could their father find another cat after their mother's death? Had their mother's fate meant so little to him?
