I knew this wasn't going to end well, but I had to try. This was too big of an opportunity to pass up. April Fool's Day. James had no idea what was coming to him. For the past two weeks, the Marauders, excluding James of course, and I had been planning the ultimate prank. I say for the past two weeks, but 12 of those days were having no idea what to do and having pointless brainstorming sessions. But the last two, the perfect plan had formulated and we were ready to put it to action. Secretly I was scared; this had the potential to go horribly wrong. I knew how James felt about me, and even more secretly, I was confused about how I felt about him. Tomorrow morning, I would get up and pretend to be in love with Sirius Black. We would hold hands on the way to the great hall, he would carry my books from class to class; and at the end of the day I would give him a kiss on the cheek when he left for his common rooms. I somewhat feared for Sirius's life. He and James were best mates, but James would consider this as an uttermost betrayal. Too late to turn back now.

I tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep, unable to get James off my mind. Why did that boy have to be so freaking confusing. He messes everything up, including my brain, my studies, my heart...

"Calm lily calm," I whispered to myself. "You hate him. He's an annoying little twat who is a bully to defenseless people." Then why am I such good friends with him? I was just confusing myself now. I was delirious from lack of sleep, that must be it. I had repeated those statements to myself for seven years, but now, I didn't quite believe them. He had stood up for me when Snape had turned against me. He had stopped asking me out every day. He was willing to become my friend this year, instead of just my boyfriend. These thoughts crowded my head as I slowly drifted off to sleep.

"Lily, wake up!" It was James, banging on my door.

"What?" I said groggily opening the door to James.

"Hey, guess what?" He said enthusiastically, "its April fool's day!" he yelled not waiting for my reply. "I have so much planned for all of us!" he continued in rapid spit fire speech, "First we'll set off dung bombs on the Slytherins in front of the great hall, then we can trick filch into thinking that there's a big emergency in the court yard while we decorate his whole office pink and stuff it with a bunch of puppies, and then..."

"James." I cut him off, "I would love to do all this, but I'm sorry, I have plans with Sirius." I watched as the joyous, excited expression melted off his face replaced with the look of sadness and disappointment with a slight undertone of anger.

"Oh." He said blankly, "I see. Y-you made plans without me. Well, have fun." He turned quickly left staring at the floor with a dejected look on his face, and if I saw correctly, glistening eyes, about to form tears. It felt as though someone had tied a 10-pound weight around my heart.

"Well this day is off to a great start." I muttered to myself, just as Sirius was walking through the door.

"Hey Evans" he greeted me, "talk to James yet?"

I explained what had happened so far, and all he had to say was

"Fantastic, that means he must already be on his way to the great hall, we don't even have to wait to walk in." and with that he set off. I followed behind until we reached the entrance, where we grabbed hands and I pretended to laugh as we walked in. James immediately looked up and when he saw us his expression darkened, but he tried to mask it. Nothing much happened for the rest of the day, I laughed stupidly at all of Sirius's jokes, he carried my books from class to class, and James remained completely neutral. He only spoke about three times, he actually focused on his school work. That was extremely unlike him. The marauders were with us the whole time, and we did some pranking, but every once in a while, Sirius and I would slip away, and make it look like we were having some "alone time". I hadn't realized how hard this would be on me as well as James. I felt so bad. At the very end of the day, I was exhausted. It was almost the end of the day, and we were about to start the end of our plan. Sirius had smuggled me James's invisibility cloak to use when I was supposed to be gone. I felt it securely in my robes. We reached the Gryffindor common rooms. I turned to Sirius hugged him, and then planted a kiss on his cheek. I turned to look at James. He at been surprisingly calm throughout this whole day, which is not what we had planned for.
