I got out of my old rusty car, it was around fifteen past ten in the evening, small drops of rain started falling from the dark, starless sky.
For some odd reason, I've always loved the rain. There's a calming effect to it for me, regardless of the fact that it was raining when my mother overdosed and my father became as useful as shit and finally cracked and fled leaving a twelve year old kid with his older brother who, by the way, I've never seen again since that day.
The noise inside Ashleigh's house dragged my mind off my wondering thought. I heard a female screaming and cursing as I ran through the garage and into her kitchen.
I wondered my eyes and it fell into this brunette who was fighting off the food with her spatula.
Ashleigh is one of my best friends and co-worker, if that should be the term used for someone like us. She was tall, tanned, legs that can go on for days with the to-die-for green eyes. One of the gorgeous views of California as one may say.
Yes, she is pretty, and no, I am not in love with her. I just know how to appreciate a woman. She's like a sister to me.
"Hey, Leigh, who's winning?" I said with a teasing tone.
"Shut up Ben, or you won't be having dinner tonight!" She retaliated, trying to look mad but failing as I caught a brief smile that flashed in her lips.
"Woah, woah, woah. Feisty little thing aren't you now? Stop shouting, it's turning me on." I wiggle my eyebrows at her which made her blush a little.
I just love irritating this woman.
"Man-whore." She said with a laugh. "The guys are downstairs. I lost the poker match it's either this" - she pointed to the pasta sauce she's trying to make - "or poker strip."
She looked at me with an exaggerated sigh and shooed with away with her hands.
I took an apple from the table and made my way downstairs to Ashleigh's basement.
I can barely hear Machine Gun Kelly's All Night Long playing in the background overpowered by the swearing and the laughing of the boys.
I opened the door and was immediately bombarded by the smell of cigarettes and marijuana.
Nothing beats the smell of home.
Don't get me wrong, we all have our own houses but Ashleigh's basement is probably where we spent most of our time. I'll be damned, I even lost my virginity in this god forsaken basement.
I saw Jake, Finn, Cole and Wes sitting together around the table playing poker.
Finn was topless.
Cole has no pants but still has his top on. I don't really want to ask.
Wes is looking bored but still fully clothed just without the shoes.
Jake is down to his boxers.
He waved at me as he light up a cigarette. "Dude, what are you staring at get in here!"
I take it the other guys noticed me and started getting up and walking towards me.
They greeted me the way only insane people do.
They all jumped at meat the same time causing us to fall off the fucking floor. I was practically at the bottom of this pyramid with four giant guys on top of me. No one here weighs below 70 kg and stands smaller than 6'0 ft.
I haven't been home for the weekend and although no one here is related by blood. We all practically grew up together and treat each other as family.
