Delier (Point of View)
I run outside of the campus and stride towards at the wide backyard of the school covered with Bermuda grass. I dashed over the field of grass and spotted the small gate along the high grills surrounding the beautiful landscape.
I wander around the wall as I can see more beautiful scenery beyond the steel wall. A great oak tree standing firm across the cool grass field far more offset from the wall where I taking its glimpse.
"Hey kid! Your stepping on my plants" A voice I heard at my back as I looked down on the ground. I saw a small kingdom of plantea still protruding from the soil which is already ruined by my feet.
"I'm sorry!" I stammered at my words and quickly move my feet away from his small kids.
I kneel down and try to implant some uprooted young seedling. I feel bad about what happen to them by my lack of presence in environment.
"It's okay kid . You don't have to do that. Get up or you'll become dirty" He requested as I ignore his words and try to put some stick for the sprouts to lean in to just to stiffen it's stand. I had no idea in gardening and I don't know if these kids will still sustain oneself's live from my wreckage.
"They won't survive kid. You'll already damage it's root"
I can feel my tears going down my cheeks as I keep pampering the soil where these wee plants stands. Becoming sensitive in this kind of thing is pathetic. I somehow feel awful to my self on how I drifted from bad things happening to me to the point where I already stepping on someone else. I continue to cry as my tears started to drizzle the plant. I wish I could put their life back.
"Are you crying? I'm not that angry kid. I can plant another one" He kneel down beside me as he put the beautiful flower in a black plastic pot that he holding and planted it besides the trampled seedlings.
"It's my job to keep this plants in good condition. Those seedlings you stepped on are my new seeds come from other country and I'm planning to insert it in my landscape collection" He articulated as he dig for a hole where the flower will be placed.
"So it's okay if you ruined it because it was still a dry run" He explain to me as he try to comfort me. He looks at me and smile and he draw me in the nearest elevated faucet beyond the bushes. He turn the handle upward and the water starts to come out. I position my hands in the running water to wash off the dirt on my hands.
"May I know your name mister?" I asked as he hand me a clean white towel to dry off my hands.
"I'm Manny. Manny the gardener" He retorted as he take his glance on the great oak tree.
"Can you do me a favor?" He asked. I willingly nodded though he is not looking. "Since you've done some terrible things on my plant, can you check out that oak tree far ahead across the green field?" He look back at me and pointed out the great oak tree. I narrowed my eyes and confuse on what he just said.
"That oak tree is so lonely, he need some talking from people like you. I know it's odd. But I feel your kindness towards people and nature" He remarked as he walk towards the gate and open it. He beckoned me to go outside of the backyard.
I slowly walk towards the oak tree feeling the soothing breeze of the air forming in the field. As I get nearer, I noticed how big the oak tree was. It was even bigger than I look than looking at it from a far distance.
I gaze upon it's wide size and try to lightly press it's firm body. It's trunk spread enough just to cover a few people under it's shadows. No matter how hot the sun above the sky, the tree provides a cool soothing environment.
