Assignment

"Early to work I guess" says Mr Jonathan, grinning at me. I guess I'm always early to work, maybe because I just don't seem to find enough comfort at home.

Back at home the tap is forever leaking puddles of water, dripping and creating a big mess. I am running low on money so the radiators at home are turned off bringing me the shivery cold feeling down the spine.

Maybe that's the reason I like coming to work early. So I can just toast my toes against the big hot radiators and if I'm lucky Abby(the cafe lady) offers me a free bagel. But the main reason I like coming to work is to see Mr Jonathan. Not that I like him or anything but it's just that the finance of the office is going down and he needs all the support he can get at the moment.

I sit down at my desk, smiling to myself. For some reason today I'm feeling very happy even though today is yet another ordinary day. As I'm typing up the report I'm recently working on Jude pokes in her head.

Her wavy blonde hair brushing up on my keyboard. She is staring at me with blue shimmery eyes waiting for a response from me. I mean Jude is a nice girl but I almost get a creepy feeling about her.

She acts different from the others and wears unusual clothes. She wears big and loose dresses which are oddly patterned. A bandana on her head on a regular basis and oddly unsatisfying flip flops that make an irritating noise as she goes past you.

"Uhh...Hi Jude" I say forcing my face to a bright smile. "Hi, Anna! Sorry for acting so weird..um you know I was wondering if you would have lunch with me today..my treat!"

"Sure!" I say and she grins at me and walks away. Yay! At least I can manage a good lunch today. Since last week I was only surviving on tin biscuits and fig rolls.

So at lunch me and Jude head to my favourite takeaway. I order a big burger with chips and cola. I mean I wasn't gonna order so much but I couldn't resist the warm smell of the chippy.

We talk all lunch and find out that Jude and I are pretty like minded. I mean she likes books, celeb gossip, swimming and shopping! What more could I ask for in a friend?

After lunch Mr Jonathan call me in his office. I wonder what its about and get a scary feeling that he is firing me because I was too clumsy to type the last report in time. I start thinking of excuses I can make but I fail to find a suitable one.

I enter his office and like a stupid start blabbering "Oh Mr Jonathan, I'm really sorry. I will type the report and submit it to you tomorrow just plz don't fire me!"

"What are you on about Anna!" He exclaims laughing at my stupidness. I Stare back at him blankly not understanding what to do next. After a while I manage to say "What do you mean sir?"

He conceals himself and says "Look Anna, I'm sure you are aware that the business is dropping. And the only way to fix it is to find a great report. I have chosen you since you are one of my most hardworking reporter. Please read the contract and reply to me before leaving the office."

I walk back to my desk and read my assignment. What the____ he wanted me to spend a whole month in a haunted villa which is on the opposite side of the city! What was he playing at! I wouldn't survive a day there let alone a month!

I push it aside and drink coffee to compose myself. Jude comes around to see me."Hey Anna, what's your new assignment bout?" She says and starts reading it."OMG! You get to live in a haunted villa for a month, how cool is that!"

I stare at her as if she has gone completely mad! Who on earth would want to live in a house that is said to be possessed? I talk to her and explain that I can't do the assignment.

"You can't do that Anna. Mr Jonathan has chosen you because he trusts you and now you can't turn him down when he really needs your help" she leaves me alone to make a decision.

I stop and think. And then I remember the faith I could see in Mr Jonathan's eyes for me. I guess my decision is clear now but is it right?
