I never thought...

You don't think about your parents divorcing, you'd like to think that when two people get married they're going to stick together through it all forever. As if divorce wasn't real. That's what I said when my parents told me about their divorce over ice cream at the frozen yogurt store just ten minutes from our little house in Florida. Truth is fights happen and people disagree and sometimes people can't come to solutions. My parents had been married for fifteen years. Although they had disagreements they never really seemed to let it get between them. My parents had me before they married. So after sixteen years my parents had split up. Even worse? I had to choose one of them to live with until I was eighteen and able to live on my own. I chose my mom because I had heard most kids choose their moms in a divorce, at least that's what I read online. A few years later my mom met this guy named Brad, he was nice and seemed to be interested in my schooling & life or at least pretended to be. I didn't mind Brad, I just wished it was me and my mom like it was back when my parents had just split.
"Rosalie out here!"
I rolled my eyes, I liked Brad but I hated how he thought he was my father. Even after a year of having him around I still wasn't comfortable with him.
"What's up?"
I said as if I cared what he had to say.
"Your mom and I have decided to move to Washington"
He said smiling as if we were all okay with this choice. My mom smiled and placed her fragile hands on Brads shoulders. I couldn't help it but laugh. Their faces changed.
"Are you kidding me? This is ridiculous"
My mom looked at me.
"No, I think it would be good to try some change for once. We've been in Florida since well before you, and you need to need change."
I couldn't even believe what I was hearing. An that they just decided to leave me out of things and take it upon themselves to make hasty decisions. I get it. Their the adults. But what about my friends and family? Couldn't they understand? Things from here went down hill.

"How can you do this? How can you two be so SELFISH?! I choose to live with you. I put up with your boyfriend here who doesn't do anything but go down to the bar every Friday, pay the water bill on occasion and can't keep his dirty socks off the couch and not to mention-"
"Rosalie Catelyn Smith ! That'll be enough! We are leaving Friday that gives you four days to pack your room and spend a couple days with your dad how much time with him is on how fast you pack your room, now get upstairs"

I sighed in annoyance and walked down the hall slamming the door behind me. I began pulling apart my room. I didn't really want to see my dad, I didn't really like him either. But being his daughter I figured I should at least call him. So I called him and informed him on how I hadn't been feeling good and we were on our way to Washington, he said he understood and he wished me good luck there and how I would "like it" he didn't say he loved me when he hung up. Which broke my heart more than it already was. Before I knew it Friday was here.
"Were wasting daylight!"
The sound of Brads voice angered me. I walked out in my ripped jeans and a now old school athletics t-shirt. Brad tried to talk to me but I quickly put headphones in and pointed to them to show that I was busy. When the key was turned over I put my sunglasses on and looked out the window all the way to Washington. My mom tapped my knee. I stretched and stepped out of the car, the air was a lot cooler than Florida. I looked at the houses around and then faced our own home the house was a tan brownish color and was decked out with plants on the front patio. I grabbed the box that said personal and walked inside. Empty. It smelt like an old couple had lived here. The only thing different about this house was it was bigger, and it had stairs and a in ground pool. I went upstairs and turned to the left to my room. It had already been painted a lavender color and a bed was already in the room. I heard footsteps. Brad's footsteps.
"We started moving furniture last week. Your mom thought getting the big stuff in before we got here would help. So you can start doing whatever it is you do with your room."
I smiled and said thank you. I opened some boxes and started to hand up all my clothes. Once my room was all set up I brought my empty boxes to the recycling. I tried to hurry back to my room but my mom called me into the kitchen. There were boxes EVERYWHERE.
"I was thinking pizza tonight? You and Brad could pick it up?"
"Mhm. No thanks I'm kinda tired. I'm just gonna shower and get some sleep. "
I started to walk away, but she called after me.
"Oh Rose"
"Yes mom?"
"There's school tomorrow, I'll bring you in and get your schedule"
"Great"
I smiled a fake smile and then walked upstairs to shower. I couldn't believe how early school started in Washington, I was just starting summer vacation in Florida. That night I dreamt of Florida, the beaches the heat and my friends. My room got a lot brighter even with my eyes closed. Someone had turned my light on.
"Rose it's 6:30 you need to be at school early so I can get you all set up"
I dragged myself out of bed
"a braid is a easy first day of school style"
I was actually talking to myself to make my day some what good. I swallowed down my moms "first day of school" breakfast and grabbed my  bag off the chair. We drove for ten minutes and finally we arrived at Jameston high school. My mom turned the car off in the parking lot.
"Im going to walk you in"
"Mom. I'd rather you not. I know where I'm going"
I smiled and got out of the car slamming the door behind me. When I got inside the lady in the office stared me down before smiling.
"Hello Rose we've been-"
"I prefer Rosalie"
The lady blinked her eyes at me she spoke to another lady and I read her tag "Mrs.bugle" she left and came back with my schedule. I lifted the paper and smiled, quickly I turned to walk out the door. A kid in black jeans and a blue shirt jumped to see me come out so quick.
"Hey! Watch what you're-"
The boy in blue ran away. I don't know why he was scared, or if he even was scared. But all I know is that he was gone. I had gotten through half of the day without seeing the boy in blue.
I dragged myself into seventh period. I walked over and sat across from the boy in blue. I kept replaying the moment this morning with him in my head. I kept looking at him at random points. The bell rang and he was first to leave the class. I didn't see him all day. At the end of the day I walked to the parking lot with Isabella a new girl I had finally made friends with. She kept talking about her day and I noticed a boy in blue walking to get in a car.
"HEY!"
"I'm sorry. What? You're history teacher sucks?"
She tilted her head at me.
"What's wrong"
"Who is that?"
She looked and smiled
"Hayden?"
I stared at him. Hayden I couldn't get his name out of my head. I started walking home with Isabella with Hayden on my mind and he never left my mind either. The first two months of school were crazy and I didn't see Hayden except once at lunch. It was another normal Friday a normal Friday with still no Hayden. I was upset. Did my face really scare someone away? I decided not to take things upon myself I was just not gonna talk to Hayden next time I saw him, if I ever saw him again. I had only made one friend in two months. Isabella. She had brown hair and hazel eyes and volleyball was her everything. She was all for trying to get me out of the house, she seemed to ignore the whole Hayden topic. Instead she stopped me after school and I had no say in my plans for tonight.
"Hey Rose!"
"Hey what's up"
"So I was thinking movies and then we go to this old park and just talk about things? You know really be friends"
"Haha. I mean sure. What time should I come over"
"I'll come pick you up, no worries"
As usual I avoided my parent and her boyfriend, I figured just to hurry and be ready by the time Isabella was in my drive way would be the best way to go about things. I walked down stairs only to be stopped by my over protective mother.
"Rosalie where are you going?"
"Mom, I'm going with Isabella to do whatever she said we were gonna do. I'll be back at 11. I promise"
"11 pm? Rose that's so late I'm not sure. And looking like-"
"I think you look good"
I looked at Brad and he winked in a "I got her to shut up now run" I smiled and blew them a kiss and walked out. There sat the light blue Mini Cooper that was being driven by a perky volleyball player who really knew how to make me happy. But something was off about the Mini Cooper, it didn't look like a perky volleyball player was in the driver seat. I opened the door and a brown haired boy sat in the driver seat. Hayden.
"Look I know this is Isabellas car, but I figured if I used her phone to text you and pick you up with her car. Yes she knows I have her car. I would get you this far. She was in all this. I'm so so sorry. Please."
I looked at Hayden with wet eyes. I didn't know if I should be mad or just let him explain. I slammed the car door and started walking. The car turned off and the car door opened and shut.
"Rose- Rosalie! Please"
I could hear my heart pounding and I felt like Hayden was two steps behind me. Which he was because I could here him apologizing and stumbling along words to get me to pay attention.
"Look I never meant to come off as a douche"
"Then tell me Hayden, what did you want to come off as"
I kept my back to him and waited for an answer. Some silly excuse. Anything. But I got nothing.
"I was at school. I was just hiding in the office. I don't know why. I don't know why I didn't talk to you more. Please. Forgive me."
"I have been dragged away from my home and friends and the least you could do like Isabella did was be here and try to be a friend. But you used her to try and make up to me for leaving me alone for weeks?! That isn't a friend-"
"Rose don't be mad"
"Mad?! No I'm more than mad?! When I ran into you that first day at Jameston I felt bad. I started to have these little butterfly feelings around you and then you leave? Why?"
Hayden stood there with nothing to say. For whatever reason I couldn't stay mad at him. He actually looked sorry.
"Rose. I don't know what else to say. I'm-"
Hayden blinked a couple times and sniffled softly. Was he about to cry? Oh my. I had know idea someone like Hayden could be so upset. I walked closer to Hayden, staring at him he did everything he could to not make eye contact, I grabbed the tips of his hands and looked at him. He leaned his head down and pressed his forehead against mine.
"Rose I'm so sorry, I never really wanted to hurt you, I don't know what more to say"
Something inside of me broke that evening, like everything I was holding in was gone. I stood on my tippy toes and placed my hands on Hayden's face.
"Then don't say anything."
Hayden's hands found my hips and they laid there gently and he lips were soft, and warm and for a moment I was as happy as I was when my parents married.
