This is it, huh?
His entire body felt heavy as if his bones had turned to lead. The burn of his injuries had long ago numbed down to a cold throbbing that he felt throughout his being. It seemed that each pulse occurred slower, the time between each one growing longer.
Worse, he could no longer feel the once ever-contstant presence of the blue lion.
Has he given up on me? Or maybe I'm just too weak? Ha...
"Lance! He's over here!" The voice seemed distant but not even a moment had past when he felt hands grabbing at him.
"Lance?" The voice was hoarse and almost unrecognizable. "Lance, can you hear me? Oh, god... hurry!"
He cracked open his heavy eyelids to indentify the desperate speaker. Hunk? He was able recogonise his large figure despite the fact that his eyes refused to see clearly, only gracing him with a blur.
Soon another blur joined Hunk's blur.
"Lance, get up. You're stronger than this!"
This voice belonged to Kieth. How could Lance not recognise the voice of his rival?Oh, I wish I was stronger than this. It was taking all of his strength to keep his eyes open. Suddenly there were four blurs leaning over him.
"We have to get him to the castle."
"We might be too late."
"We have to try!"
Then, he felt something small and cool land on his cheek. Then on his forehead. Then his nose. Soon he could feel the drops drumming against his armor and a familiar smell rose from the soil around him. It smelt like Earth. It smelt like home.
"Hey...it's rain..." He felt his eyes burn. Warm tears mixed with the cool raindrops and fell from the corner of his eyes to trickle to his ears. "I missed rain..."
As the comforting hiss of rain lulled his eyes shut, a long, final sigh escaped him.
