Falling asleep was not easy, I stayed awake most of the night with the bedroom door wide open. I couldn’t get my grandparents conversation out of my mind. Wondering if I should follow Grandpa or not. Blake was fast asleep, but I didn’t want him following me if I was mistaken. I finally made up my mind, swinging my legs over the side of my bed I walked quietly to the doorway of my room. I was startled by a fast moving person in a white robe that approached my door.
“You should be in bed young one.” The tone of the voice made me realize it was a woman but her face was shrouded by the hood.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“You’ll find that out soon.” She said, with a kind tone, as she walked away. I finally decided to follow. Luckily I was already dressed in black. I began walking down the hall, following the woman, when a hand touched my shoulder. I grabbed the hand and turned around startled by the sight of Maria behind me.
“What?” I yelled in a whisper.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Nowhere, just go back to bed.”
“No, I’m coming with you.”
“Alright but be quiet.” I said. Turning the corner heading into the living room I saw more people in white robes, all with faces shrouded by hoods. They were leaving the house.
“Come on.” I said running after them. I opened the door heading out to the porch and was about to jump off the railing when Maria grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
“What?”
“Look down.” I did what she told me. Below us grandfather was there dressed in a white robe with a rose with red, pink, and black pedals. Or what we know as a Dark rose. Dark roses are rare and beautiful, but come with a price.
“Be careful.” Grandmother said to him, placing her hand on his shoulder.
“I will.” He said putting his hood up. That’s when he disappeared into the woods. Grandma began heading to the stairs to come back on the porch.
“Kenny is with them?”
“Come on.” I said, jumping down. Landing, I got quickly got back up and ran into the woods.
“Where did he go?” Maria asked, joining me in the woods.
“If I knew I wouldn’t have stopped.” I said. The rustling of leaves stopped our conversation.
“Let’s keep moving.” I said, as I began to walk towards the field something was drawing me there.
“Do you even know if this is the right way?” Maria asked, catching up to me.
“No, but do you have a better idea?”
“Yeah, let’s go home.”
“You go, I’m staying.”
“Why is this so important to you?”
“Why do you care?” I said, pushing her out of the way, continuing to head to the field. To be honest I didn’t care if she was following or not I didn’t want her to come with anyway. This is my business and I wanted to learn this for myself.
I could hear distant chanting as I got closer to the field. The forest has never been this dark before. It was as if all the light was being sucked out of it like a vacuum. Reaching the edge of the field the darkness seemed to be lifting. Looking closer I noticed that the Chanting was coming from ten people all dressed in white robes, each one with a different symbol on thier back. There were all huddled around a huge fire. I climbed a tree to get a better look. A figure appeared across the moon lit night. The closer it got, the more I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
