Billie wanted to be anywhere but stuck in traffic in Downtown Manhattan. But she knew she couldn't back out of her responsibilities, especially when today could do wonders for her career. Even though she majored in journalism, her true passion was writing, and she'd made a hell of a career out of it. Her work had been featured in a few popular magazines and blogs, and she had two published books under her belt.
So when a good friend of hers over at Collider begged her to fill in for him, she couldn't pass up the chance. But as she sat in the back of the taxi cab stuck in between 22nd and 9th avenue, her stomach started doing flips. She couldn't figure out if it was because of whom she would be interviewing throughout the day, or if it was stress.
She begged the cab driver to hurry, but it was apparent that they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. She let out a frustrated sigh and suddenly realized she was not far from the N train. She then threw her cab fare at the driver and jumped shipped. She figured she still had just enough time to get a left over time slot on the press junket. But while waiting for the next train to arrive, she felt her phone vibrate inside her pocket. She knew it was a stream of texts from her ex.
"He could go fuck himself." She thought.
It had been two weeks since their relationship exploded, but he still badgered her nonstop hoping for a second chance. But she wasn't able to forget the image of finding him in bed with two other women. Justifiably she was still livid, but she was also hurt. She questioned her own self-worth, and she wondered if he grew tired of her, or did her livelihood threaten him. Sure, she put work first at times but whenever she was involved with someone, she poured her heart and soul into the relationship. But in the end, she always ended up with a broken heart because she wasted her time on someone that took her for granted.
It wasn't long before she finally boarded the train, and as she sat in the back, she had an epiphany. Maybe being cheated on was the best thing that could have happened to her. She only stayed in New York because she didn't want to leave him behind, but he may have just done her a big favor. Now she could spread her wings and get on with her life.
Her phone rang once more, but she turned it off. She didn't need any more distractions. Instead she reviewed her notes.
It was already 9am and Chris was already drained from doing press. He knew it came with the territory, but he was tired of hearing the same questions. Every other query was about whom he was dating, or about his Captain America role. Hardly anyone asked him about the new film he was promoting. It felt daunting because even though he was satisfied of his work this time around, his confidence was shaken. He was grateful for his career, but he still had fears that he would be pigeonholed and not able to accomplish more.
It was days like this where he was weary of show business, but deep down he knew this was the one thing he loved the most. He adored acting, and he was well aware that it wasn't always enjoyable and that part of being in this industry was gritting his teeth and just getting through the day.
