The blinding light was back. Yato squinted until his eyes adjusted to the light. In front of him appeared yet again his best friend.
"Yato! I made us lunch."
Hiyori held up a little basket and a blanket with a bright smile on her lips.
"Want to eat with me? I think I made too much food so I thought of sharing with you. Would you like some food I made?"
Her smile was so inviting; he couldn't say no to that face.
"Sure Hiyori! Anything you make I'm sure it's going to taste delicious."
He returned her smile with his own warm smile as his hand was grabbed by the smaller female's hand dragging him to the open field that suddenly appeared in front of them.
"Great! Let's go!"
Hiyori ran into the open field with Yato being dragged behind her. She seemed really excited for this picnic. Once she thought it was a good spot she let go of the boy's hand and spread the blanket out on the grass.
"This is a perfect spot!"
The spot she chose seemed to be in the middle of the field next to a cherry blossom tree. Yato wondered why she chose this spot but if she thought it was perfect then it's perfect for him too. He sat down on the blanket after she sat down and patted the spot next to her. After sitting down Yato took the time to notice that in her hair was a bright red bow; it brought out another cute side to her. She seemed like a delicate doll.
"So Hiyori, what did you make?"
He was curious about what kind of food she made that was too much and decided to share with him. With a giggle, Hiyori reached into the basket and pulled out some sandwiches.
"Ham or turkey?"
Yato pondered on the question and decided to go with ham which was handed to him. He opened the plastic that covered the sandwich and took a bite. His eyes widened from the taste as his taste buds seem to be dancing to the wonderful taste that Hiyori's sandwich seemed to have brought on.
"Wow! Hiyori..this is..so amazing!"
Yato took another bite after another enjoying and savoring the taste. He heard a giggle and turned to look at Hiyori who was enjoying her sandwich and seemed to be giggling at the state Yato was in. Mouth full of the delicacy with his cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk storing food.
"Hahaha! You look so funny Yato. Does the sandwich taste that good? I have to thank my mother since she taught me."
It seems that Hiyori's mother taught her well if the sandwich was going to be this amazing. Taking one last bite Yato savored the sandwich and cleaned his face and shirt from the crumbs that could have possibly fallen on him.
"Ha...that was so delicious. What else did you make Hiyori?"
After finishing her last bite Hiyori wiped her mouth and reached into her basket once again pulling out another plastic covered sandwich.
"I may have made too many sandwiches. Haha.."
She giggled nervously.
"You could say I was planning this picnic for us but I guess I got too excited and made too many sandwiches. I made about two more."
Yato's eyes seemed to have glimmered as he grabbed another sandwich devouring the goodness of Hiyori's sandwich making. Though he felt his heart racing at her previous words.
You could say I was planning this picnic for us.
Why did that make his heart race? Hiyori is just his friend, right? Ignoring his racing heart and thoughts he continued to nom on his sandwich. After they both finished up both of their remaining sandwiches Hiyori once again reached into the basket and pulled out a slice of cake.
"My mother made this last night before the picnic. She hopes you'll like it."
Hiyori passed Yato his slice and reached for hers taking out a small fork for the both of them handing one to the boy. Yato looked at the cake seeing that it was chocolate with vanilla frosting on the inside. He took a piece of it with the fork and took a bite.
The taste was indescribable as his mouth seemed to beg for more of the delicious pastry. In an instant, he seemed to have devoured everything. Could he blame himself? The baking of the confection was just too scrumptious. Hiyori giggled once again at Yato state. He had chocolate crumbs all over his face. She leaned forward as she wiped his mouth as she was holding his face gently.
"You really loved the cake, didn't you?"
Her voice was so calming and alluring when she said that. Darn his stupid heart rapidly beating again. He couldn't help it; his best friend was just so cute. As she continued to clean his face she gave him a soft smile with her eyes closed and a hint of a blush rising to her cheeks.
"You're so cute Yato."
Yato was going to respond but once again she seemed to be fading. No..not again. Not again! He reached out to her but she had already disappeared into the fading light. Light? That's right. The last time she disappeared he was suddenly taken over by darkness so why this time is he surrounded by light?
"Yato.."
That voice again; Yato got up and looked around to figure out the voice. Whose voice is this? Who is calling out to him?
"Yato...wake up."
Wake up? What do they mean?
"Wake up."
